Project/Programme Manager - NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Behavioural Science and Evaluation Bristol, England
Job description
The role
As the Project/Programme Manager of the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Behavioural Science and Evaluation (HPRU BSE), in conjunction with our partner UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), your main objective will be to coordinate and ensure the efficient and effective operation of the unit.
This role will involve developing and managing relationships with key stakeholders, seeking to establish strategic partnerships that benefit the HPRU BSE, and fostering collaborations that advance our shared goals. With a focus on maintaining and expanding our programme of research, you will ensure that all necessary support is in place to deliver high-quality applied health protection research, in line with the priorities of UKHSA.
What will you be doing?
In this management role, you will work closely with project leads and researchers to identify and develop new projects and milestones that align with the HPRU BSE's business plan. This involves managing the HPRU budget, ensuring effective financial planning, allocation, and reporting.
You will actively seek opportunities to establish strategic partnerships that enhance the impact and reach of the HPRU BSE's research. By encouraging and facilitating collaboration between researchers, teams, and partners, you will ensure the successful delivery of research projects and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.
One of your primary responsibilities will be to oversee the monitoring and evaluation of HPRU BSE projects. You will ensure that key performance indicators are tracked and reported accurately to measure the progress and impact of the unit's research initiatives. By preparing comprehensive annual reports, you will provide valuable insights and recommendations to support evidence-based decision-making.
You should apply if
If you are passionate about applied public health research and possess the relevant qualifications, skills, and experience, we encourage you to apply. Ideally, you should have experience managing large research projects/programs, preferably with multiple organisations and stakeholders, and a solid understanding of managing budgets and collating annual reports for funders.
We are looking for candidates with excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise a high and constantly changing workload and meet multiple deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in IT, numeracy, and budget management, are necessary. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, motivate and engage team members and partners, and comply with ethical and legal requirements for medical research are essential. Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to write reports for various audiences, are also key attributes.
If you thrive in a dynamic research environment and are dedicated to contributing to the field of health protection, this position offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact and drive positive change in public health research.
