Research Services
This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.
We welcome applications from candidates interested in working part-time hours or job-sharing arrangements.
The above full-time post is available from 1st October 2023 on a fixed term basis for 48 months within Research Services.
Summary of the role
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Project Manager to manage a new research project within the PROTECT research team led by Prof Anne Corbett. This post is available from September 2023. The post entails managing an exciting new project, ReaCTIVE, which is part of a large portfolio of research in the field of cognitive health and ageing led by Professor Anne Corbett. ReaCTIVE is part of the PROTECT Research Team, a series of digital health research studies including cohort, trials and biomarker research which uses creative, innovative digital and technological solutions to explore and address the major research questions in brain health today.
ReaCTIVE is an NIHR-funded programme which will finalise, validate and commercialise a cognitive monitoring technology for use in the NHS and the community. It involves a broad range of activities including a large-scale clinical investigation, integrated validation and qualitative studies, in-depth health economics workstream and commercialisation pipeline for a medical device. The primary role of the Project Manager will be to facilitate the management and success of the ReaCTIVE Study and to co-ordinate the administration of the research.
To ensure the smooth running of this complex research study, the University is looking for a dynamic Project Manager who will act as a key coordinating point for all aspects of the study. The post-holder will contribute to the strategic and operational requirements of the study, support the extensive network of academic and industry partnerships needed to deliver the work, oversee the commercialisation pipeline including liaising with regulatory approval consultants, and co-ordinate communications, budgets and reporting.
The post will be an integral member of the dynamic PROTECT Research Team. The role will include working with all team members to ensure project workflows are planned, delivered and executed successfully within the complex portfolio of work within the team. This will include working closely with the developers on digital development needs, specifications and user testing, line management of research and administrative staff to ensure all study activities are coordinated correctly, ownership of risk assessment and compliance workflows, liaison with internal and external partners, funders and collaborators and responsibility for budgeting and reporting activities. The post will report directly to the study Chief Investigator.
About you
The successful applicant will have experience of managing a complex digital or online research project and knowledge or experience of the medical device approval process. They will ideally bring experience of running clinical studies, knowledge of Agile app and web-based development processes and regulatory approval pathways. We recognise this is a broad skillset so in the absence of all these skills the postholder will have the confidence and track record to demonstrate their ability to grasp new, complex and technical concepts rapidly and to apply them in practice using robust project management approaches. They will also have in-depth working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice, Data Protection compliance and Quality Assurance, as well as a good understanding of research methodology and governance including clinical trial management.
Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study in addition to the Project Management qualification.
