External Supply and Manufacturing (ESM) supports the Operations strategy by establishing and managing suppliers across the world that meet our global standards. Through external suppliers, the team manages approximately one third of AstraZeneca’s value of production. ESM plays a key role in ensuring the external supply chains are robust and deliver value to AstraZeneca through driving continuous improvement.
The team also supports New Product Introduction through external supply, plays a pivotal role in integrating companies and products that AstraZeneca acquires and bringing innovation through supply chain programmes e.g. Market Access.
Your role
The ESM Projects team manages a broad range of projects such as establishing external supply for new products, expanded supply for existing products, business continuity planning and projects responding to new legislation.
Key to this role is the ability to identify and manage significant risks, develop mitigation plans, bringing clarity and solutions to complex situations with high ambiguity and lead the delivery of several, diverse projects at the same time.
Key accountabilities:
- Working across both large molecule (biologics) and small molecule (synthetics) portfolios, implementing new and redesigned supply chains globally through a cross-functional team. This will include activities such as in-sourcing, out-sourcing and technology transfer of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, Formulation & Packing and Devices
- Leading global projects across multiple organisations, geographies and business areas
- Identifying and managing significant risks and developing associated mitigation plans
- You will engage with internal sponsors and external partners and be their single point of accountability
- You will define goals and lead delivery performance to deliver projects to time, cost, and quality standards and regulatory compliance
Essentials for the role:
- Technical experience of large molecule (biologics) manufacturing, and ideally technical experience across some of the following technologies - drug substance, formulation, packing processing or devices, analytical technology transfers, new product launches
- Project and programme management experience from the pharmaceutical industry and technical experience from one or several of these technologies: API (small molecule), formulation, packing processing or devices, new product launches, analytical technology transfers
- Experience with senior stakeholder management, partner management, presentation and influencing skills
- Experience of working with suppliers
- Experience of Lean and problem solving in a complex environment
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a scientific, engineering or business field.
