This is an exciting opportunity to join Manchester City Council as a Project Manager on a 2 year fixed term basis working in the Specialist Development Team within the Highways Service.
The Specialist Development Team are tasked with developing and delivering the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040 in collaboration with strategic partners. The key activities of the team are to contribute to the Council's aspirations for Manchester and reviewing the feasibility of transport projects to encourage modal shift. The arrival of HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) into Manchester will alter the transport network of Manchester and will need to fit into existing infrastructure and aspirations for Manchester.
Working with a broad range of internal and external team members, partners and stakeholders will be a significant part of this role. Key external links will include Transport for Greater Manchester, Manchester Airport Group, Other Greater Manchester Councils and external contractors. Key aspects of the role include independent working and working as part of a team on issues related to route wide transport issues and more specific areas of Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.

About the Candidate

You will be passionate about large infrastructure projects and strategic planning with excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, plus skills and experience in areas of relevance to the post, including:
  • Experience of successfully managing and delivering a range of projects and support packages within a structured project management environment.
  • Relevant qualification via Association of Project Management (APM) or equivalent or willingness to work towards
Key tasks:
  • Playing a key role in the Team's approach to and the development and delivery of various strategies and plans relating to transport matters.
  • Assimilate and interpret information provided by HS2 and partners.
  • Work with other team members of the Specialist Development Team to ensure the HS2 project aligns with other strategic projects.
