As part of the Fast Jet Sector within the Customer Support and Service Solutions (CS3) UK Line of Business, the role of Project Manager for Typhoon repairs support has become available. This role may be based at Luton or Edinburgh sites and will require some travel between both.

The Typhoon platform will be in service until at least 2040 and requires support to its Radar and DASS systems. CS3 is responsible for delivering the delivery of the EuroRADAR and EuroDASS repairs of Typhoon equipment across both the European and Export customers.

Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will be responsible for the implementation, control and reporting of the day-to-day project delivery for the repairs support. You will lead a cross-functional team (direct line management of one Project Leader) and work in close partnership with Leonardo Italy, Elt and BAE Systems to deliver the support scope.

The purpose of this role is to ensure the customers have the equipment needed to deliver their operational requirements successfully. In addition to this, you will be responsible for ensuring any pricing/proposals are captured and managed through the engineering teams and the Customer change management process. It will be your responsibility to capture, implement, manage and control these projects in the most effective manner.

What you will do

Key tasks of the role are to:
  • Be the primary point of contact for the project delivery on Typhoon repairs support.
  • Manage all project activities with the project team to ensure the contractual requirements of the projects are executed, and performance is achieved to the satisfaction our Customers and Partners.
  • Develop accurate pricing for individual repairs across both Europe and Export customers.
  • Manage the project risks and opportunities, and report these to the key stakeholders both internal and external to the Company.
  • Provide support to Typhoon Support business development/winning opportunities.

Accountable for:
  • Delivery on commitments made to both internal and external Customers and Partners.
  • Delivery of project milestones and contract requirements to the agreed cost, quality and schedule.
  • Developing and maintaining Customer and Partner relationships.
  • Mentoring of the junior project team members.
  • Managing the overall allocation of project tasks, ensuring the necessary resources are in place to execute these.
  • Planning and monitoring of resource expenditure to ensure that resources are available and utilised within budget and in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Providing estimates to current and future bid/proposal activities.
  • Maintaining project compliance with the company policies and procedures, including life cycle management.

Key responsibilities / duties are:
  • Achieving Customer and Partner satisfaction through an understanding of their needs and drivers.
  • Agreeing work packages with the project team to deliver the overall project requirements.
  • Monitoring and control of the project cost and performance, to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Identification, management and reporting of project risk and opportunities, and their respective mitigation and realisation activities.
  • Lead/support bid and proposal activities to secure new and/or grow existing business.
  • Reporting project performance to the Programme Manager, including:
    Summary of overall performance of contracts/services
    Monthly Contract Status Report
    Forecasting project and financial performance
    Adherence to Project Milestones
    Monthly SOFT Report
    Key Technical Issues / Problems affecting performance
    Risk and Opportunity
    Performance of Partners / Sub-Contractors
    Recovery actions for negative variances in schedule or shortfalls in contractual performance against targets
  • Supporting the Programme Manager at the Sector Monthly Project Performance Reviews.
  • Promotion of knowledge sharing and best practice within the team, enabled by effective communication and planning skills.

What we are looking for

Essential:-
  • Experienced project manager with a record of successfully managing defence industry / international contracts.
  • Ability to manage and motivate multi-disciplined and geographically dispersed teams.
  • Experience of working with multi-company collaborations, and maintaining strong supply base relations.
  • Willing to make decisions based on the best information available and take responsibility for these.
  • Working knowledge of the Life-Cycle Management processes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, and able to engage and influence others.
  • Working knowledge of SAP system and processes.
  • Commercial and business awareness.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.

Desirable:-
  • Understanding/awareness of Fast Jet in-service support contracts, or modern and innovative in-service support approaches.
  • Understanding of Trade Compliance and Export Regulations (ITAR, EAR, etc)
  • Experience in working within a bids and proposal team on a complex multi-stakeholder programme.
  • Experience in delivering high value programmes/ projects
