Job description

The Project Manager's role within CDIO’s EU Exit Team will include working to the Senior Delivery Manager. You will be responsible for ensuring effective management and service delivery for either new or enhanced IT needs for Borders & Trade, part of the CDIO organisation.

You will work to the Senior Delivery Manager in a complex environment and against a backdrop of large-scale change to provide effective leadership for a team of project members.

Location and Travel: Travel, with occasional overnight stays, to other HMRC and supplier sites may be required.

Role Description:

Within this role you will be responsible for the delivery of large scale and high impact IT change which supports HMRC’s strategic objectives. You will take full ownership for the end-to-end delivery of business initiatives, system integration and large-scale change projects from definition through to successful completion.

This will include:

  • Identifying, assessing and managing risks.
  • Ensuring realistic project and quality plans are produced and that change is effectively managed.
  • Ensuring that project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets.
  • Taking responsibility for managing supplier relationships and for all commercial aspects of the projects.
  • Being able to work independently in a fast-moving environment.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders across HMRC and driving delivery through providing effective leadership to internal projects teams and external delivery partners.

Person specification

Essential Criteria:

You will need to demonstrate within your application the following essential experience:

  • Experience supporting medium to large scale technical/IT enabled or business change projects, against a backdrop of large scale organisational change.
  • Driving delivery through direct teams and multiple external suppliers.
  • Understanding how business requirements are incorporated into IT scope.
  • Working under broad direction in challenging and unpredictable environments.
  • Building and maintaining successful relationships with partners in order to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Commercial awareness including managing and monitoring of project costs and budgets ability to effectively challenge external suppliers to ensure best service and value for money.
  • Understanding and experience of strong stakeholder management (both internal and external) in a challenging and diverse environment.
  • Understanding of both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
  • Either have or be willing to work towards achieving professional IT qualifications such as; PRINCE2, Agile, APM or MAPM.
