Purpose

As Senior Project Manager and part of the Project Office, you will be responsible for the delivery of projects, both new and existing, across all areas of the business and supporting the Project Office team members in their responsibilities. You will be required to deliver the stipulated business changes within timeframe, budget and quality standards. You will be responsible to the Head of Strategic Projects, who reports to the Operations Director. The Projects Office is part of the Operations Department.

Profile

As Senior Project Manager you will be responsible for the delivery of projects surrounding all areas of the business and for supporting the delivery of others by team colleagues.

You will be required to work with business managers to take unstructured challenges and to drill down to the key requirements and objectives, before constructing and leading a programme to find the best business solution. This will require the application of all project management skills, from doing an initial feasibility study, requirements analysis, comprehensive business case, project management plan and then managing the implementation and reporting using both agile and standard project management tools.

The individual will pursue excellence in all projects and work to support colleagues to achieve business goals as defined within the Project Business Case, once specified. The individual should be highly organised, with great attention to detail and excellent communication skills and must have experience of supervising others in a Project Management environment.

Previous experience of working in a professional and varied Project Office environment where high standards of work are continually achieved is essential to this role. The individual must have had full exposure to, and experience of, the project life-cycle and tools /techniques/standards within each phase, as well as excellent analytical skills and the ability to draw out information. The Senior Project Manager will demonstrate good commercial acumen and not just an ability to follow process.

The individual should be a first class team player and demonstrate good communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels both internally and outside the business, as necessary. There must be an ability to work under pressure, to strict deadlines and to take ownership for overseeing projects which fall under the remit of the Project Office. They must work closely with the Head of Strategic Projects to both inform on and evaluate ongoing projects and to develop the strategy to continually meet the evolving needs of the business and the team.

As a Senior Project Manager the individual should create an environment that promotes positive communication and demonstrates flexibility. Responsibilities will include reporting to the Head of Strategic Projects on the status of all ongoing projects, providing support, development, coaching to the team, and ensuring full cover across the Project Office team at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Strong MS Project, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Visio skills
  • APM Project Management Qualification or PRINCE2 Practitioner
  • Previous pharmaceutical company experience would be valuable
  • In addition, the initiative and ability to absorb knowledge of the Company, existing Projects and the relevant sections of the ABPI Code of Practice.
Core Responsibilities

  • End to end Project Management.
  • Help develop the concept of Project working in the Company and the development of the Project Office
  • Assist Head of Strategic Projects in implementing agile methodologies across the business
  • Maintain and run regular and ad-hoc reporting for resource utilisation, project status and KPIs as needed
  • Track projects so as to maintain a real-time picture of status and priority, facilitating adaptability in the face of changing business priorities
  • Develop positive relationships across the Company to ensure communication is open and transparent, facilitating early identification of issues and risks and agile capitalisation of business opportunities
  • Understand deliverables to internal (and external) customers
  • Maintain understanding of the company environment, compliance requirements and policies and procedures relevant to Project Delivery.
  • Providing status reports and updates on all Projects to the Head of Strategic Projects
  • Ensuring project progress throughout the team in line with associated timelines
  • Providing support, development and coaching to the team to improve team member skill sets
  • Motivating team members to accomplish their goals
  • Ensuring full cover across the Project Office team at all times
