The Middle East and North Africa Programme focuses on the latest political, economic and security developments in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen and trends in the Gulf states, Iran, and North African countries.

We have a fixed-term opportunity for a Project Manager who will provide dedicated high-level and specialised project management to a range of research projects in collaboration with the broader team. This exciting opportunity will bring and expand your substantial experience in project management and familiarity with budgets and coordinating the delivery of research outputs and reporting to key donors. This is a highly collaborative role which will provide support to researchers on key issues and contribute to the programme’s overall strategy through your intellectual curiosity and passion for our mission.

Main Duties and Responsibilities


Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme, the Project Manager will:

Delivery

  • Prepare and submit narrative and financial project reporting to funders;
  • Ensure project compliance with funder and institutional requirements;
  • Assume responsibility for particular research activities and/or deliverables, including contributing to or authoring articles, papers and reports;
  • Manage the production and distribution of project outputs;
  • Contribute to the projects’ promotional materials and communications plans, including social media, newsletters and maintain up to date web pages as appropriate;
  • Lead all aspects of event organisation, including attendance, travel accommodation and other logistics for workshops, roundtables and seminars;
  • Scope opportunities for future work;
  • Provide administrative support as required;

People

  • Build and maintain relations with key partners for the successful delivery of project outputs and activities;
  • Develop new research partnerships within existing projects;
  • Manage outreach and influencing strategies with internal and external stakeholders, consultants and partners;
  • Help to establish and maintain links with key individuals, businesses, and institutions around the world working on relevant issues;
  • Oversee the work of consultants and suppliers within projects;
  • Assist senior management in the programme with team and house engagement;

Strategy

  • Design and oversee project research activities together with other project leads;
  • Contribute to the programme’s financial processes and forecasting;
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the team in order to attract and retain funding;
  • Support the preparation of grant applications to funding bodies.


Requirements

You will be a self-starter, capable, flexible and keen to be an integral part of a diverse team and able to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to complete a variety of tasks simultaneously from start to finish and to a very high standard;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and project partners;
  • Excellent financial knowledge and experience of reporting financially to donors.
  • Strong project management skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Able to work in a busy environment and have the ability to think on their feet;
  • Able to use initiative and make decisions effectively under pressure;
  • An interest in the Middle East and North Africa region.

Salary: £37,000 per year


Contract:
Full-time, 12 month fixed-term contract.

Location: Hybrid (Office/Home), minimum 2 days in the office per week.
