ROLE

HI Group Ltd is a specialist environmental consultancy supporting Further Education and SME clients to Design, Build,
Finance and Operate Low Carbon Transition Projects.

Covering all aspects of the journey from Carbon baselining to post-project Monitoring and Verification services, the company adopts the highest standards of sector governance in renewable energy solutions and sustainable project development for client businesses.

The key objectives of the Project Technician role will be to work alongside the commercial team and external supply chain to ensure projects are designed to achieve optimum energy efficiency for clients and that the installed systems are delivered to the required standards ensuring they achieve the modelled energy outputs.

You will be required to support the engineering process and external resources in conducting building energy analysis – desktop feasibility studies, site surveys and system design process.

As a Project Technician, it will be your responsibility to work with the company modelling protocols and oversight the preparation of project feasibility documentation, project proposals, and all required customer-facing documentation to communicate the engineered solutions.

Critical to the success of the role will be your ability to communicate with customers, suppliers and other professional partners and develop their confidence in our ability to create solutions that consistently deliver energy savings, economic benefits and carbon credits for the systems we manage.

The position is substantially office-based but will require travel throughout the geographic area of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities –

The key responsibilities fall into 3 main areas;

1. Business Development and Feasibility support.

In support of the Sales process, you will organise & coordinate feasibility studies and assist in the production of customer presentations.

− Using templates, prepare and deliver client-specific reports and presentations, to show the technical deployment potential – Energy Saving Opportunity – Economic opportunity and business case for deployment.

− Ensure the company CRM system is regularly updated and reported on to demonstrate client interface and project progress.

− Carry out site surveys and technical reviews of client existing systems in preparation of feasibility studies.

2. System Design & Engineering;

A key role will be to convert the feasibility solution into detailed designs that facilitate the delivery of consistently high- quality installations that support the business income targets, grow profitability and turn drive an equitable and sustainable return for the company. For this purpose, you will be expected to;

− Work with the engineering and sales team to establish a project level program that manages the available resources efficiently and consistently ensuring full communication and buy in from all stakeholders.

− Develop a standard pack of design details that can be adapted to suit a wide variety of projects, including standard work packages & interface solutions – packaged plant room designs to house the HVAC and energy storage equipment – standard heat pump specifications to accommodate a wide range of capacities.

− Working with the operations team, develop a standard installation pack to support the development of the installation programme – project cost estimates, progress chasing and managing the works delivery and validating quality standards.

− Support the development of our O&M programme and ensure we continually strive to extend the life of all system components.

− Support the operational post audit of every project to evaluate the economic & social impact of the project delivery as well as identify key improvement targets for future installations.

− Fully review the energy performance of each installation and establish any improvers required.

3. Customer Service
As the key early interface with customers, the continual improvement of customer service will underpin the program of installation activity. You will be expected to develop service standards through high quality communication and leadership and for this purpose you will be expected to;

− Hold regular reviews with customers to ensure high quality management activity is retained at the top of the agenda.

− Delegate appropriate authorities and responsibilities throughout the operational network.

− Utilise management reports to benchmark personal effectiveness against customer expectations and take appropriate action to deliver industry-leading relationships and reputation.

− Manage external communications to suppliers, customers, statutory authorities and local interest groups as required.

− Maintain high quality and effective communication with the internal support team ensuring you understand the project dynamics and can deliver services within the required framework.

Suitable candidates must possess the following key attributes and skills –

  • Suitable Engineering experience (2-3 years) – within either building services or Mechanical & electrical with a focus on renewable technologies (heat pumps & solar in particular) an advantage.
  • Proven skills in energy modelling and building level thermal engineering.
  • Able to manage the appropriate balance between customer empathy and company objectives, achieved through an understanding of the factors which influence customer thinking.
  • Clear focus on high quality service to customers and business profit.
  • A natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance.
  • Self-driven, results-orientated with a positive outlook.
  • Able to demonstrate a record of achievement against challenging goals and experience in working on multi-site customer contracts.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to empathise with multiple stakeholder points of view.
  • Proficient in exploring and utilising management information systems, ruthless in evaluation of performance effectiveness and able to take consequential action where required.
  • Competent writer of business correspondence and use of Excel, Word, Outlook and Internet applications.
  • Comfortable using engineering software tools such as CAD, PVSOL and others essential.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: £20,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
