Role
The Project Engineer has technical responsibility for the design of the upstream portion of the Thacker Pass process plant, including the mineral processing, leaching, neutralization, counter current decantation, and filtration circuits. The position coordinates closely with the Lithium Nevada and Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) teams to deliver a safe and efficient design that meets technical requirements. The Project Engineer will support construction and commissioning activities at site.
The position will be based out of the Reno, NV, business office and will report to the Project Engineering Manager. Travel to various engineering and vendor offices and the project site.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide input to the project execution plan, schedule, and capital cost estimate
- Identify and raise trends, ensuring that management of change processes are followed
- Coordinate across disciplines to resolve technical issues
- Support coordination between engineering, procurement, project controls and construction on technical and schedule requirements
- Provide support for operational readiness activities
- Monitor and expedite engineering progress of the EPCM and vendors against plan and coordinate with EPCM to develop recovery plans as required
- Provide review of engineering deliverables, trends, specifications, material requisitions packages, and bid analysis
- Provide technical support to the construction and commissioning teams
- Develop responses to requests for information from EPCM and vendors
- Ensure the design is safe, reliable, maintainable, constructable, efficient, and complies with applicable laws, regulations, codes, and technical requirements
- Actively participates in design reviews, such as 3D model reviews and HAZOP
- Provide recommendations and engineering management support to the Project Engineering Manager
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Accredited Bachelor s Degree in engineering field of study
- Minimum of ten (10) years of work-related experience in process plant design
- Excellent communication and organization skills
- Ability to multi-task while prioritizing critical activities
- Strong sense of ownership over area or responsibility
- Strong background in a wide variety of chemical process industry equipment, such as boilers and steam systems, heat exchangers, pumping systems, compressors, instrumentation & controls, etc.
- Be a self-starter: highly motivated, able to work independently, with high energy.
- Work within an organization that prioritizes a culture of teamwork, safety, and environmental stewardship.
- Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and OSHA, MSHA requirements.
- Must have good comprehension of environmental compliance, rules, regulations, reporting, policies, and emergency procedures.
