About The Role

2 New Roles – Permanent – Hybrid Working – Warwick HQ

This is the time for action – we need to move at pace and reform our energy system – to deliver energy security, to tackle climate change and to protect our people.

Sitting within the new Strategic Infrastructure business unit, you will be accountable for early development of projects from initial concept. You’ll ensure the development of projects delivers on all key considerations, so that strategic objectives, safety, programme, cost, commercial, and environmental are input into early scheme development work. Facilitating the progress of the project is an essential element of the role to ensure delivery timescales remain achievable.
We have 2 roles available across our level 6 and 7 grades.
Level 6 is suitable for those with immediately out, or recently from further education or looking to transition into interesting project roles.
Level 7 is suitable for those who may be from a construction or utilities environment or experience elsewhere, with a strong passion and curiosity for UK net zero and UK electrification.
A recent hire into the team came from an aerospace/automative background.

This role is based at our Warwick office which has free onsite parking, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.
Leveraging this hybrid working, this team current work typically 1 day per week in the office, which is dependent on personal and business needs.

We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

About You

What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who can demonstrate a technical understanding of development, programme management and construction in relation to project delivery. A STEM or engineering background would be advantageous.
You’ll have the ability to generate meaningful, concise and accurate reports, including the presentation of key project information. The ability to utilise spreadsheets and databases to interpret, manipulate and extract data from large data sets is essential. In addition, you’ll have excellent written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills.
Crucially you’ll be curious, keen to develop and learn in this fast paced and evolving environment.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What You'll Do

You’ll be working with projects delivery, outage planners, power systems engineers, costings teams and procurement to name just a few stakeholders.
You’ll track project cost and project programme development to influence the Electricity System Operator’s (ESO) decision on which projects to proceed.
Initiating and documenting early engagement with consenting, lands, external affairs, procurement and all construction project related teams you’ll provide early visibility of projects and shape the development according to business needs.
You will develop and issue project registry documents to include the entire development story of projects which serve as the key document for handover to Project Directors.
You’ll work to ensure delivery timescales are on target or accelerated as much as possible, as well as production of early development and delivery strategy.

What You'll Get

A competitive starting salary between £43,000- £62,000 – dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
