Shell Trading and Supply (T&S) is an energy trading operation that combines a global network of trading companies, with shipping and maritime capabilities, and an integrated network of supply and distribution activities.

The Commercial Operations organization works in partnership with T&S to deliver capabilities that enable them to “run” the business, as well as build capabilities that “change” the business.

Programme Project Delivery (PPD) sit in Commercial Operations and:

  • support T&S with cross business line Programme, Project, PMO, Assurance and Change management

  • delivers a methodology that enables effective Programme, Project, PMO, delivery and embeds change

  • acts as the custodian of the overall Programme and Project agenda for T&S, enabling prioritisation activity and cross business line stakeholder alignment

The portfolio of projects is diverse and varies in scale and complexity. Current Programmes/Projects span Risk, Compliance, Process, Data & Systems. However, the portfolio is expected to evolve to meet the demands of Shell’s Powering Progress Strategy.

The PPD team are a new, highly driven team of Project management and PMO experts focused on delivering real solutions, that add business value and help drive the T&S agenda forward.

What’s the role?

This is a great opportunity for an individual who is eager to grow their Project Management and PMO capabilities and looking to learn and work on high stake projects with senior leaders.

As a Project analyst within PPD, you will be expected to manage the Project Management Office for T&S projects. Reporting to the PPD PMO lead, the Project analyst has responsibility for:

  • Overseeing and monitoring projects to ensure that cost, quality, and delivery are controlled, and targets achieved.

  • Championing and following project management standards and best practice, including continuous improvement.

The Project Analyst will be expected to:

  • Delivery planning - support Project Managers & PMO Lead in developing detailed resource-based project plans, which show dependencies and clearly defined delivery roles.

  • Governance - support Projects Managers & PMO Lead in establishing a fit for purpose Governance framework.

  • Tracking - support Project Managers in providing progress reports and delivery metrics for T&S projects and making interventions to reduce risk or manage issues. This includes progress against plan and budget, projects change through change control process, risks, and issues.

  • KPIs - Track the KPIs to support data-driven decisions and measure how effective the projects are performing.

  • Financial Management - monitor, report and manage project budgets and expenditure.

  • Standards - follow the processes and standards for the Project Management Office to manage risks and issues, change control, financial management and records management.

What we need from you

The top 2 requirements are:

  • Previous experience in a PMO office and executing PMO processes and standards

  • Commination – Clear, sharp and concise communication is paramount

Additional requirements:

  • Supporting the PM, in collaboration with workstream leads and wider stakeholder group to understand project progress and provide appropriate facilitation to drive the execution of project deliverables (especially when there is a need to make critical decisions to address underlying risks or issues blocking the progress).

  • Planning and RAID management - Ability to create and maintain project plans, including risks, actions, issues, dependencies and deploy interventions to mitigate risk. Ensure project activities are up-to-date and that actions owners are followed up with.

  • Reporting - Ability to produce reports to the highest quality. Develop slides to report on progress to support both the programme Governance and report out to the Portfolio level.

  • Financial tracking and management of the project budget.

  • Facilitate project meetings and workshops and take minutes.

  • Stakeholder management – ability to understand your stakeholders, their needs, their ways of working and adapt your style accordingly. Proven ability to navigate push back from stakeholders and develop an aligned way forward path.

  • Confident presentation skills, with the ability to use a range of Microsoft tools to produce professional and informative data for stakeholders as needed

  • Ideally have knowledge and/or competence in Trading, Supply, Risk, Compliance, Process, Data, or Systems.

  • Learner mindset - Eagerness to learn, with proven ability to get up to speed quickly and solve business problems, without being a subject matter expert.

  • Aligned with Shells values of Honesty, Integrity, Respect with a focus on Safety.

  • Ideally have knowledge and competency in change management, with the ability to support the Project/Programme manager to deliver and embed sustainable change outcomes.

  • Knowledge and competency in strategic problem solving and project management.

  • Ability to deliver in a highly ambiguous and fast-paced environment.

  • Quality focused – ability to administer all aspects of the role to the highest quality.

  • Professional qualifications in project management desired e.g., PRINCE 2, Agile project management.

  • Experience and knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university (or equivalent work experience).
