Job Summary:
ABC News is looking for a project hire Digital News Associate (DNA) to support the ABC News Assignment Desk and Politics Desk in New York. This is an ideal opportunity for early career journalists to become part of the daily news gathering operation of a 24/7 global newsroom. This role requires overnight and weekend availability. This is an on-site position.
Responsibilities:
Providing production support to the ABC News Assignment Desk and Politics Desk. The DNA answers phones, books travel as well as assists producers and correspondents in the field. Additionally, the DNA will write stories for ABC News Digital platforms, pitch stories, make editorial calls, and monitor video feeds for the entire News Division.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be willing to work overnights and weekends.
- Genuine interest in news/current events and politics.
- Must have excellent editorial judgement, be well organized and ability to work well under pressure.
- Track political candidates, event schedules and embed locations.
- Monitor video feeds of live events and social media platforms.
- Support correspondents, embeds and crews (research, pulling archive video, logging video booking travel, logistics)
- Coordinate with NewsOne and NNS about affiliate coverage.
- Pitch and write stories for ABC News Digital.
- Editing experience using Avid or Adobe Premiere is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a newsroom.
- Additional languages.
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or equivalent in experience.
The hiring range for this position in New York is $35,000- $48,000. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
