A small local construction company is seeking a Project Accountant to join the team!

Wage Range- $20.00 - $30.00 an Hour DOE

The primary role of this position is to provide proper accounting and recording of financial activity across the company and ongoing projects. This position performs a vital role in ensuring the financial reporting is accurate and timely. This position requires the candidate to juggle competing demands, meet deadlines, coordinate with cross functional teams (construction managers, clients, subcontractors, vendors, and labor), and manage contracts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Implement and maintain internal control safeguards for the project.
• Assist Construction Manager with initial project budget & setup.
• Set-up all project related templates and documentation at start of project.
• Create and maintain current and complete project files in electronic format.
• Oversee a small team of project coordinators.
• Set up, lead, oversee and implement procedures to ensure contractual requirements with respect to all financial aspects are followed by all project participants including outside of scope billings, preconstruction billings, non-reimbursable expenses, proper fee billings, retention billings, contingency reporting, etc.
• Manage the project subcontractor list to ensure that all subcontractors are following Company policies (executed contracts, change orders, insurance certifications, licenses, waivers).
• Read and respond to all internal and external communications in a timely and professional manner.
• Work with project team to manage owner change orders and subcontractor back-charges.
• Manage the A/P and A/R functions:
  • Facilitate the timely and accurate data entry (into the appropriate reporting system) of all subcontracts, subcontractor applications, change orders, general requirement invoices, expense reports, credit card transactions.
  • Manage compliance of subcontractor billings (including insurance, executed contracts / change orders, licensing, lien waivers & tier subcontractors / suppliers).
  • Coordinate sub payments in terms of their contract.
  • Research and resolve outstanding items on vendor / subcontractor statements.
  • Coordinate monthly draw process with owner.
  • Complete and submit monthly applications to the owner according to contract terms and accurately record data in accounts receivable.
  • Research and resolve partial or unpaid receivables.
• Prepare monthly job cost entries and journal entries as needed.
• Prepare and maintain monthly job cost / budget analysis and reconciliations.
• Review the job costs reports for accuracy.
• Prepare internal monthly reports as required.
• Manage financial project close out process.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years experience in a project accounting position, preferred experience with a construction company or similar.
• Experience with document control and contracts a plus.
• Excellent professional communication skills (oral and written) across diverse populations required.
• Self-starter with high degree of personal accountability and ability to multi-task required.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to learn and adapt to new software.
• Experience with streamlining processes and implementing new procedures and software is a plus.
• Must pay attention to details and be highly organized.
• Must be a team player and have a positive attitude.
• Viewpoint Software experience a plus.

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands.
• The employee is frequently required to stand and walk.
• The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel or crouch.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

• This position is in Salem, Oregon.
• It is an office environment, and you will be working at a desk for most of the day.
