Job description

Child Friendly Cities & Communities is a UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK) programme that works with councils to put children’s human rights into practice. The programme is part of UNICEF’s global Child Friendly Cities Initiative.

The programme aims to create cities and communities in the UK where all have a meaningful say in, and truly benefit from, the local decisions, services and spaces that shape their lives.

We provide training based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and support councils, their partners, and children and young people, as they work together on an ambitious three-to-five-year journey towards international recognition as a UNICEF Child Friendly City or Community.

The Programme Manager will lead on the development, implementation, and expansion of the Child Friendly Cities & Communities programme in Scotland and the North of England. This will include cultivating relationships with councils to grow the number of candidate CFC cities in the region; supporting councils and their partners to develop child rights strategies, policies, and action plans; delivering child rights training to professionals across multiple sectors; providing guidance and expertise during the implementation of programme projects and activities; ensuring the programme is underpinned by a robust and developing evidence base.

Prospective candidates will be committed to children’s human rights and achieving positive change for children and young people in the UK. Experience of implementing social change, community development and/or organisational development projects and programmes within the local government, public or NGO/charity sector is essential.
