Job description
At the Environment Agency we protect and improve the environment, acting to reduce the impacts of a changing climate on people and wildlife is at the heart of everything we do.

We’re investing £5.2 billion between 2021 and 2027 in our Capital Programme that will reduce flood risk to 336,000 properties across the UK, contribute to sustainable green growth and the creation of a great environment for all. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to support the management of our ambitious Flood & Coastal Risk Management programmes and Environment Programme.

This role is essential, varied and will involve bringing the the environment and capital programming teams together. The role draws upon a diverse range of transferrable skills and you can expect to be involved in the following:
Help to improve integration and discipline across both programmes, particularly in relation to delivering outcomes for the natural environment
Develop a common understanding of both programmes across multiple teams
Initiate / embed new ways of working across Area teams which may include training
Support colleagues with queries around Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and carbon
Report on KPI's and environmental outcome measures including carbon and BNG
Develop and improve data quality performance across projects through current and new systems
Generate programme analyses for National teams / senior management, local business boards and statutory committees to support decision making

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You are required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training is given. We will work with you to find a role that suits your interests and circumstances.
The team
The FCRM programme includes projects that create new flood defences, repair and maintain existing defences, monitor routine maintenance, deliver nature-based solutions and environmental benefits. The Programme Team tracks spending, delivery and performance in across these activities. We advise on the status of the programme, risks, issues and opportunities. This role is key to understanding our overall programme which is delivered by different teams. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders is key to this role.

Application are welcomed from those without experience in Flood & Coastal Risk Management or in protecting/improving the natural environment. Some experience would be useful, but not essential as we are looking for transferrable skills, energy, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn.

Desired Skills:
Excellent data management skills and experience of interpreting large data sets.
Competent using Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint, and demonstrable experience of undertaking and summarising statistical analysis would be an advantage.
Ability to learn using new systems and embed them into standard ways of working
Produce standard and bespoke management reports to enable decision making
Effective communication skills, with the ability to present convincing verbal and written advice to key stakeholders
Proactive approach and fresh perspective will ensure you’re always looking towards continuous improvement

Our hybrid working model combines home and office working, however you will be expected to attend the office on certain days or meetings dependant on business needs.
