Job description

This is a Fixed-term contract role for 2 years,

Who are we?

Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to our 15 million customers by supplying 2.6 billion litres of water through 32,000 km of pipes, keeping taps flowing and toilets flushing.

At Thames Water, every one of our actions, big and small, matters every day. Water is essential to life, so our business is always open.

In Team Digital, we’re planning for a future where the technology solutions we co-create and design enable us to achieve our goal to protect our greatest natural resource and allow our customers, communities and the environment to thrive.

What you will be doing

As the UK’s largest water company, we are taking action for a new world of water - fixing the problems of today and building resilience for tomorrow. In digital transformation, this means leveraging data and technology to transform our organisational capability, drive innovation and deliver impactful change to our customers, communities, and the environment.

The Cyber Security Programme Manager will be responsible for managing and delivering the cyber security roadmap across the organisation. This role requires a deep understanding of programme and portfolio management concepts, technologies, and best practices, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and will be committed to delivering high-quality security projects that result in tangible risk reduction. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in delivering cyber security change and transformation, ideally within infrastructure or utility-based clients.

  • Development and implementation of a comprehensive cyber security roadmap and programme design.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of programme operations.
  • Lead efforts to improve our project delivery methodology and processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and develop scopes of work that align with organisational goals.
  • Develop and maintain robust programme governance controls.
  • Regularly evaluate and measure the effectiveness of the work being delivered by the cyber roadmap.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards with cyber programme and delivery metrics.
  • Ensure adherence with internal compliance controls surrounding the controlled change of business processes and capabilities.
  • Monitor, analyse and help optimise project performance (i.e. budget, timescales, benefits tracking, etc.), identify potential issues, and implement proactive solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to project managers.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors and service providers.
  • Manage and monitor project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation to ensure successful and timely completion of cyber security projects.
  • Provide regular status updates, reports, and presentations to senior management and business stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of cyber security awareness and promote best practices across the organisation.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging cyber security trends, technologies, and threats, and apply relevant knowledge to enhance the company's security posture.

What you should bring to this role

We want to bring together a team of brilliant tech minds with game changing ideas. We’re looking for people who will help us re-imagine the way we work, the way we get things done and delivered:

  • A truly digital mindset. Open to collaboration. Open to risk. Open to new ways of doing things.
  • Obsessed with data. Obsessed with excellence.
  • People who think and behave differently to the way we do. People who don’t want to just be another cog in the machine.

In order to excel in this role, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Significant experience in designing, implementing, and managing enterprise-wide technology change programmes
  • Understanding programme/project best practices such as PMI, PRINCE2, PMBOK, etc.
  • Experience in remediating risks in ever-changing digital environments
  • Ability to assess, prioritise and mitigate programme-based risks and vulnerabilities
  • Ability to line manage a small team of project managers (circa. 2 direct reports) towards a set of common goals
  • Hands-on experience managing programme management concepts such as resource allocation, programme/project budgets, risk management, benefits tracking, programme assurance, etc.
  • Programme/project management specific certification such as PRINCE2, PgMP or MSP
  • Strong working knowledge of how to enact business change and transformation in a complex enterprise environment
  • Ability to explain security problems in a simple manner to non-technical audiences
