Program Coordinator, Farm to School Job Description (Part-Time):
The Program Coordinator, Farm to School, will support the implementation of our nutrition Focused School-wide Assemblies. This position will be based in Los Angeles. This staff person will be an integral member of the Common Threads’ Farm to School project team. This team is refining the organization’s good food purchasing goals and practices while ensuring food-sourcing compatibility with our educational curricula.
The Program Coordinator, Farm to School, will be responsible for scheduling, auditing, and assessing the overall implementation quality for the ~450 Common Threads hosted Nutrition Focused School-wide Assemblies. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will coordinate and schedule training for Kitchen Managers, highlighting local ingredients, nutrition, and various cooking techniques. Finally, this staff member will liaise with school administrators and the main point of contact for troubleshooting and problem-solving.
The position reports to the Senior Program Manager. This position will work from their home office. This is a part-time position that will primarily work Monday - Friday. Some nights and/or weekends may be required.
This position is grant funded with a target start date of 4/1/23. However, the start date is flexible and may also shift in the event of funding delays.Program Coordinator, Farm-to-School Responsibilities:
- Manage Farm to School partner relationships with the 450 LAUSD schools
- Work with school administration, teachers, Common Threads Chef Instructors, and local farms to schedule and implement programs
- Oversee the quality of programming regarding chef instructors, curriculum, school relationship, and kitchen relationship (frequent class visits are required)
- Support with training and management of Farm to School Chef Instructors
- Collaborate with local farmers and purveyors to source ingredients for Farm to School programming
- Coordinate and facilitate special Farm to School events at schools, community-based organizations, farms, and other fundraising events
- Support data tracking and management of Common Threads’ commitment to the Good Food Purchasing Pledge
- Utilize our CRM to track all program data
- Serve as a point of contact for Common Threads’ Research and Evaluation team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Knowledge of Los Angeles local food system required
- Understanding of nutrition and cooking preferred
- 3+ years of experience in not-for-profit or farming organizations
- Experience working with Salesforce or a CRM preferred
- Ability to work within a mission-driven environment to develop professional and respectful relationships with people both internal and external to Common Threads
- Ability to work independently and remotely with confidence and outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational, time management, and logical thinking skills; must be task-oriented
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skill set
- Possess positive, upbeat energy and a passion for wellness, food access, tolerance and awareness, and making a positive impact on society
- Comfortable multi-tasking and adapting their roles and communication style depending on the task
- Must have access to a car and be willing to travel locally - Mileage will be reimburse
