Major/Essential Functions
The DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING in the Edward J. Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech University (TTU) invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions beginning in the Fall of 2024. The Department intends to develop aerospace engineering programs. Preference will be given to applicants whose research focus has strong applications in aerospace engineering and align with the College of Engineerings major research thrusts. The areas of interest include (1) flight dynamics, controls, and robotics, (2) computational science (e.g., hypersonics, physics-based, or data-driven), and (3) materials & manufacturing (e.g., energy applications, high-pressure materials). These positions are at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates with outstanding credentials and appropriate academic experience will be considered for the rank of Associate Professor/Full Professor.
The successful candidates will be expected to develop an externally funded, independent research program and collaborate with TTU faculty across various academic units. Candidates who have very strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding, and who have the proven capacity or clear potential to bring externally sponsored research to TTU are encouraged to apply. Teaching courses at both graduate and undergraduate levels is essential. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable. Professional service as well as service to the department, college, and the university is expected.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, and/or a related field. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidates intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity.
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants must and provide a research statement relevant to the proposed research areas. The expected starting date is August 2024, although an earlier start date is possible. Applicants should submit a cover letter, a resume, a statement of research and teaching interests, and a list of at least three references.
