Job description
Are you interested in working at the top ranked Physics department in REF2021 at a world top 100 University?
We are seeking to appoint a Professor in Materials and Biological Physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. You will be an active researcher, deliver high quality teaching and make a critical contribution to the University of Sheffield.
The Materials and Biological Physics Group studies a wide range of problems from understanding the fundamental physical principles that underpin life, to the practical applications of organic and hybrid organic/inorganic thin-films. The successful applicant will conduct research that complements and broadens the portfolio of the activities within the group, with expertise that includes experimental biophysics and/or the physics of sustainability. Applications should also demonstrate complementarity to one or more of the research areas in the School of Biosciences or in our Flagship Institute for Sustainable Food.
You will lead high quality independent, and collaborative research programs and shape the wider research area in Sheffield. You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience), and expertise and a track record in Biological Physics that will enhance and complement the Department’s portfolio or strengths. A track record in securing and managing substantial external research funding, and a track record of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals are both essential.
We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.
We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
