Chief Purpose of this position
We invite candidates to apply for a 12-month, tenure track (research) faculty position in the Virginia Center on Aging, College of Health Professions, at Virginia Commonwealth University. The VCoA seeks a colleague to lead and collaborate in research and teaching, participate in service to the department and university, and contribute to leadership in the profession.
Position Responsibilities
Research
Faculty member will engage in research, acquisition of grant funding and disseminating findings in the areas of Medicare and Medicaid quality improvement, epidemiological dementia registry tracking and evaluation activities for a large geriatrics consortium focused on training healthcare professionals.
Teaching
Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities, including gerontological public policy inclusive of aging and disability services, and quality in long-term services and supports (LTSS) and the practice of geriatric care management.
Service
Faculty member will serve on the departmental, college and/or university committee as necessary and in a professional capacity through involvement in national organizations representing the discipline.

An Assistant Professor of the Department of Gerontology reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Gerontology.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a Master’s of Gerontology program
- Earned research doctorate (PhD) in gerontology, health-related sciences or a related field
- An established research agenda and demonstrated track record of external funding
- Demonstrated scholarly production sufficient for the rank of Assistant Professor
- Demonstrated experience in LTSS and dementia registry research
- Demonstrated experience teaching Geriatric Care Management
- Certification in Geriatric Care Management
- Formal training and experience in curriculum development, evaluation, and instruction
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse environment for faculty, staff, and students and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students; assume a continuing self-education program to maintain professional excellence in gerontological practice and education; work within a diverse educational environment
