Franklin University, located in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach a graduate level Advanced Learning Strategies course. This 6-week course will be taught face-to-face during the day at our downtown Columbus, Ohio campus beginning with our fall term.
This course introduces new international students to a variety of cultural concepts germane to university life and graduate student expectations in the United States. Students will explore issues of individualism, academic integrity, communication, conflict resolution, and relationship building in academic and professional U.S. contexts. Concepts will be applied to practice-based scenarios using case studies, interactive activities, external interviews, writing assignments, and self-reflection.
Requirements for this position include a minimum of a master’s degree and daytime availability. We seek someone with experience with non-native speakers of English/international students in either an advisory, mentorship, or teaching capacity. Must have cultural sensitivity and demonstrated success in communicating across cultures. The selected individual will have the ability to enhance students’ experience on campus with academics, career building, social integrations, and cultural adjustment. The position requires someone with thorough knowledge of the higher education context, university departments, student support mechanisms and first year success programs. Basic knowledge of job search skills such as interviewing, resume and cover letter writing, and LinkedIn as well as basic understanding of OPT/CPT programs would be pluses in this position.
