Responsibilities
This full-time, 12-month Teaching Faculty position is a Legal Writing Professor at Florida State University College of Law, teaching advanced legal writing courses and serving as the law school’s writing specialist, working to improve students’ legal writing skills through individual and classroom instruction. This position also includes academic support responsibilities, and reports to the Assistant Dean for Academic Programs.
- Meet with individual students to assist with writing assignments.
- Assist students with issues such as organization, analysis, and legal style, as well as grammar, punctuation, usage, and citations.
- Help students revise writing samples, cover letters, upper-level writing and research (ULWR) assignments, graded 1L writing assignments, and other writing projects.
- Offer students practice with writing bar essays and exam essays.
- Present writing workshops throughout the academic year, such as:
- Top Ten Guidelines for Clear and Effective Legal Writing, Part I
- Top Ten Guidelines for Clear and Effective Legal Writing Part 2
- Tell a Story: How to Write a Fact Section
- ULWR and Scholarly Articles
- Liven Up the Language: Language and Sentence Structure
- How to Write a Federal Constitutional Law Bar Essay
- Journaling and Writing for Wellness
- Teach and develop Legal Writing courses:
- Advanced Legal Writing
- Lawyer Skills
- Legal Writing & Analysis
- Legal Writing Lab
- Provide academic support for 2L students, and offer guest lectures for Academic Fellows program.
Qualifications
A J.D. degree from an accredited law school and one year of teaching experience in the area of legal writing.
