Production Team Cheesemonger (Full time, Permanent) London, England
Job description
We are looking for an enthusiastic cheesemonger to join our permanent Production Team at our Bermondsey maturation site. We have a full-time position available.
Our busy Production Team consists of 15 skilled cheesemongers who are responsible for cutting, wrapping, boxing and processing about 80% of the cheese sold at Neal’s Yard Dairy. It is their job to fulfil the orders placed by the Sales Teams and to ensure that our online shop customers, as well as our wholesale customers in the UK and abroad, get their cheese in prime condition.
The Production Team typically work Monday to Friday 7.30am- 4.30pm in our Bermondsey maturation site. The role will require some 4am starts on rotation, and some weekend work at peak times.
As part of the role of Production Cheesemonger you will:
- Rotate daily around different workstations (cutting, boxing, order checking etc.)
- Work autonomously while being mindful that your team members are reliant on your pace to do their work
- Clean the workspace daily to ensure our high standards of food safety and hygiene are maintained
- Be responsible for stock management
- Make cheese quality decisions in a timely manner. To enable you to do this well, tasting and learning about cheese is paramount
- Use standardised Work practices to maximize efficiency and consistency
- Liaise with Sales Teams about any problems with orders
- Liaise with our Cheese Maturation Team who supply the Production Team with cheese
Requirements for the role are:
- Attention-to-detail
- A sense of urgency
- An understanding of the quality of the cheese being packed
- Be comfortable with physical work (this job requires lifting and handling lots of cheese!)
- Ability to work independently within a team
- Good verbal communication skills
- Take initiative to problem solve
- An interest in food and the food industry
