The role: We are currently looking for an experienced Production Supervisor to join our growing team based in Portchester.
As a Production Supervisor, you will lead a team of 2-4 senior technicians and 8-16 technicians, with a mix of permanent staff and contractors across mechanical and electrical engineering.
The successful person will manage a safe and positive working environment and develop a motivated and skilled production team. You will also be responsible for developing the infrastructure and repeatable processes to improve safe working practices and quality standards, whilst improving production efficiency through continual process improvement.
Role responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Plan, prioritise and schedule production workload effectively to achieve deliverables, operate production efficiency within budget and to agreed targets.
- Manage, coach and guide the production team to effectively achieve upon production schedules and deliverables; using toolbox talks, daily GEMBA, 1-2-1s, appraisals and performance management.
- Support resource allocation, managing overtime, recruitment and interviewing and inductions.
- Manage staff absences including reviewing and approving annual/flexi leave and recording, monitoring and managing sickness absences.
- Ensure a safe working production environment is in place and followed by all visitors, staff, contractors and subcontractors. Investigate accidents, incidents and near-miss and implement corrective actions.
- Control the production activity, system and processes that enable efficient production and ensure good product quality and reliability.
- Support the selection, use and implementation of appropriate production equipment, methods, processes and systems in consultation with production engineering, engineering and quality teams.
- Implement continuous improvements to improve health and safety, quality, cost and efficiency, whist ensuring all daily/weekly/monthly H&S, quality and equipment audits/checks are undertaken.
- Report upon production performance and progress to relevant Managers.
Essential Skills / Qualifications / Experience:
- Either a Technical Engineering degree qualification or significant Production Management experience within a related engineering industry.
- Experience in leadership, direct line management, organisation and planning.
- Coaching and personnel development experience.
- IOSH qualified.
- Effective communicator.
- An improvement / problem solving mindset.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Desirable Skills / Qualifications / Experience:
- Production management within the Marine industry.
- Experience in a low volume / project-based production environment.
- Operating within ISO9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Operating within ISO45001 Health and Safety Management Systems.
- Use of MRP systems and product configuration.
