Job description
We are looking for an experienced metalworker to join our 12 person team at Kaymet; a long established and family run manufacturer of deluxe craft-produced anodised aluminium trays, trolleys and hotplates.
The Kaymet factory is in Peckham (near the Old Kent Road, SE1 5AN). We are a stalwart of inner London's small but vibrant manufacturing economy, a Royal Warrant holder and winner of a Queen's Award for Enterprise.
You will need all-round production metalworking skills, or have the ability to learn them rapidly.
The role requires working with aluminium sheet, extruded profiles and tube, and includes operation of manual (not CNC) machines. Processes we undertake are: cutting with guilotine and chop-saw; drilling and counter-boring; power press setting and operation; fly press setting and operation (for punching, cropping, notching and forming); use of a pedal operated crimping machine; manual profile and tube bending; flat-bed / belt linishing, graining using a Grindingmaster machine; occasional work on a turret lathe.
The ideal person for this role would be able to learn (over an extended period) how to produce our full classic product range, refining skills in all these processes as well as precise assembly work (including use of epoxy adhesives, screws and rivets).
We will also consider less experienced candidates who are willing to learn, though they will need some metal engineering knowledge and basic metalworking skills, and must demonstrate aptitude and interest in quality making at-pace.
This is demanding work, and it requires batch production momentum alongside concentration, care and dexterity.
Full time is assumed. This will be a conventional employment with benefits including 31 days of paid holiday per year. Our working hours are 7:00 until 3:30.
An attractive salary can be offered, appropriately matched to skill and experience. We have indicated the likely range, though we are flexible depending on who comes along.
We offer a good working environment, and are a welcoming, fair and inclusive company. We considers all qualified applicants equally.
This job will best suit someone who can conveniently get to our factory without driving, as there is no regular car parking space available.
Please include a simple CV and a short cover note explaining your interest in work at the Kaymet factory (and where you would be travelling from), and your suitability for this role.
Respond via Indeed / email as given, or you can contact Ken Schreiber at Kaymet (details at www.kaymet.co.uk).
We apologise in advance that we can't reply to all candidates that apply.
