Job description

This position is the Fifth Supervisor and will act as resource and a back-up supervisor to the four crews. This position will provide shift coverage for Supervisors who are absent for any reason. Therefore, you will become familiar with and work with all four crews. If you are not providing shift relief coverage, then you are working on special projects as assigned by the Production Manager. The regular schedule will be Monday to Friday but will change frequently to a shift rotation (including days, nights, and week-ends) to cover for absences.

The Production Shift Supervisor reports directly to the Production Manager and is accountable for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the Mill while on shift. This is accomplished by supervising employees; organizing and monitoring work-flow; communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Achieves production levels by developing and directing safe and efficient team members.
  • Promptly identifies and addresses unsafe conditions or behaviors
  • Accountable for ensuring shifts operate at full complement and ensures shifts are properly resourced including maximizing effectiveness through cross-training etc.
  • Accountable for product meeting defined quality standards on shift.
  • Troubleshoots equipment failures, determines work around and reports deficiencies and problems to Production Manager
  • Minimizes downtime by verifying that equipment is maintained.
  • Maintains and develops good team member relationships.
  • Minimizes cost through efficient use of materials and human resources.
  • Increases quality and production through experimentation and increasing knowledge.
  • Maintains an effective safety program within the crew.
  • Manages team accountability including coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees;
  • Completes special projects while not covering shift

Qualifications:

  • Manufacturing or heavy industry experience
  • Experience supervising teams / crews
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge and aptitude
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility in schedule as needed
  • A positive attitude, ability to work safely, mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, and willingness to learn
  • The motivation to learn new skills and advance into progressive technical/leadership roles
