Production Leader – Production Test Facility
Full Time (3-shift working pattern - Mornings, Afternoons and Nights)
Derby
Why Rolls-Royce?
We are looking for a number of Production Leaders to come and work in either our Volume Assembly Line or in our Complex Engines businesses, where you will lead a diverse team of 20-40 people and have full accountability for all aspects of operational performance. You will also work closely with the cross-functional team of 3 in order to drive business results.
The Production Test Facility (PTF) is the home of Civil Large Engines, where over 30,000 parts are brought together from across the supply chain for final engine assembly and testing.
We pioneer cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet our planet’s vital power needs. We’re proud to be part of the pathway to net zero as we power society for generations to come.
Work with us and we’ll welcome you into an inclusive culture, one that invests in your continuous learning and development, and gives you access to a wide breadth and depth of experience.
This is an interesting opportunity to work in a busy, world-class engineering environment.
We offer excellent development, a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, employee support assistance and employee discounts.
What you will be doing:
You will lead, inspire and coach a team within a defined manufacturing cell to delivery against the targets to meet customer requirements. You will:
  • Be accountable for ensuring that customer commitments are met in full, measured against agreed HSE, quality, cost, delivery, people and responsiveness standards.
  • Drive towards a performance and culture of Zero Harm, ensuring that our teams are trained and compliant.
  • Accountable for ensuring that all work is carried out in compliance with the required standards, to the engineering specifications, and for promoting a product safety culture in the organisation.
  • Drive to Zero Defects; work with all functions to reduce risks and drive product and service right first time.
  • Develop and manage agreed people budget (headcount, productivity, absenteeism). Understand and manage the cell cost centre budget and work with the team to drive productivity and reduce consumable cost.
  • Deliver our products and services to customer commitments on time, plan using load and capacity tools, manage bottlenecks and constraints to achieve flow through the cell. Understand WIP and inventory levels and drive to meet business targets.
  • Optimise the capability and capacity of the cell by developing a flexible and motivated team and ensuring the members are trained, capable and effective.
  • Inspire the manufacturing team to consistently deliver high levels of performance through facilitation, coaching and the demonstration of lean leadership behaviours.

Who we are looking for:
At Rolls-Royce we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are an essential component of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.
  • You have a company-wide outlook and have had exposure to different challenges, cultures and ways of working.
  • Experience of operating in a similar role within a manufacturing facility.
  • Understanding/knowledge of multiple disciplines demonstrating breadth of experience.
  • Appreciation of product integrity.
  • Proven experience delivering improved operational performance in both favourable and unfavourable conditions, utilising cross-functional teams.
  • Experience of deploying continuous improvement methodologies such as lean and Six Sigma (ideally with Green Belt accreditation).
  • Management experience in an engineering industry is ideal, but not essential.
  • Ideally you have attended higher education and/or leadership development programmes.
