The BBC is currently recruiting a Production Accountant to join the Production Accounting team in Salford, Birmingham or Glasgow on a 12 month contract.
The Production Accounting team works within the production community to ensure that production budgets are effectively managed and to protect value by deploying and managing effective cost management, controls and risk management disciplines.
As the Production Accountant, you will be responsible for providing effective financial control and management of budgets on productions, providing regular cost reports, up to date forecasts advice on cost reduction and utilisation of funds.
You will ensure that the accurate provision of accruals and commitments are made throughout the production life cycle and will prepare final accounts, ensuring all outstanding claims are settled material overspends are highlighted with relevant stakeholders.
You will take an active role in budgeting and forecasting contributing to the preparation of accurate and achievable month-end project forecasts, balancing creative aspirations with financial and resource constraints. You will also prepare and revise a phased final cost forecast to support effective and timely budgetary decision-making and aid centralised cash flow forecasting and will provide timely advice on the financial implications of on-going editorial changes.
Working alongside Production Teams you will play a key role in cost management, monitoring and controlling expenditure against budget and ensuring that this is reflected accurately and correctly on the system. You will challenge and actual or potential variances and will work closely with the senior production management to provide strategic advice and analysis.
In addition, you will be responsible for completing statutory and corporate financial returns for location spend items on behalf of the production and will ensure compliance and best practice across all activities.
You will be a Production Accountant, Production Manager or have relevant Production and Accounting experience with a strong track record in TV Production. Proven cost management experience is essential along with strong budgeting, forecasting and analysis experience. The role also demands excellent communication skills as you will be required to build and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of non-finance stakeholders. Professional accountancy qualifications are advantageous, but not essential for this position.
