Job description
Product Pioneers - Graduate Technologist Programme
- 2300034X)
Have you ever wondered how we make food with less salt still taste delicious?
Or how we use robots to pick our berries? What about what goes on behind the scenes in making the Sainsburys products you love in a factory? How do we develop the latest beauty must-have? In short, how do we make Sainsbury’s products that you love, safe, better for you and for the planet? You’ll begin to learn all of that on our Product Pioneers Graduate Technologist Programme because that’s where you can really explore the science behind it.
Why join us?
You’ll learn more about food and technology with one of the UK’s largest supermarkets. On a dedicated scheme lasting two and a half years, you can discover what this part of the business is all about — project managing own brand products from concept to launch, to placement in store, depot and in the supply base, we will help you explore the product journey, and what’s involved in the process from how to manage a product safety incident to future proofing our food supply.
What you’ll be doing
Whether you want to specialise in Produce or Beauty and Household, or a food-generalist route, you’ll do rotations around our Total Technical team. It could also see you work alongside and learn from key experts in areas ranging from Agricultural to our Central Technical Team.
The Product Technologist role is diverse, and no two days are the same, whether it’s product safety, new product development or working on our Plan For Better agenda you will be learning lots of new skills and learn how we innovate through science.
You will have a line manager to support you in the day-to-day learning as well as a mentor to help guide you through your career at Sainsbury’s.
Who you are
You’ll need a relevant degree such as a science or horticulture degree, but your tenacity, resilience and curiosity will be important. Happy solving problems, diversity of thought and sharing opinions, you’ll be comfortable working with different teams across commercial, development and supply chain.
What you could do in the future
Once you’ve completed the Product Pioneers Programme, you’ll be a Sainsbury’s Product Technologist and be responsible for managing a product area which includes being responsible for quality, safety & legality, ensuring your suppliers are meeting the Sainsbury’s minimum requirements and working on the implementation of new product development. You’ll have a network of contacts across the business and truly supportive management to help you develop along a path that suits you.
In return
At Sainsbury’s there's a lot to look forward to. We believe in prioritising the wellbeing of our colleagues and we work flexibly.
Financial benefits include two discount cards for 10% off at all our brands, performance-related bonus, Sainsbury’s pension, life cover, Sharesave scheme and Share Purchase Plan, season ticket loan, health cash plans and banking discounts.
To make life and work easier we have a holiday buying scheme, leave when you’re welcoming a new addition to the family, colleague networks, cycle to work scheme, Employee Assistance Programme, Gympass and a Wellbeing centre.
