A role with Engineering and Technical Design means being on a team of engineers and technical designers who create products that truly embody the intent of Target-owned brands. Can you ensure that each product has that just-right mix of style, quality and value? Do you love to create technical product solutions that help meet strategic business goals? Then you’ll have success on our talented and innovative team. Here, you’ll partner with our quality and compliance teams to understand performance testing protocols and develop products that meet them. Your work can help identify technical specifications and quality standards like raw materials, fit and function, construction details and dimensions. You’ll leverage collective expertise to suggest improvements to cost of goods, assembly, sustainability and ROI. You’ll also collaborate with vendors to ensure that the brand vision is clearly understood and successfully brought to life with every product we offer.

As an Associate Engineer for Stationery you will support and be responsible for the product design and development process. This requires a diligent approach to workload and maintaining timely communication with cross functional partners. You will be responsible for understanding business initiatives, product functional requirements, and performance expectations to ensure quality consistency of the product. In addition, you will work collaboratively with cross functional partners including vendors and PSQA Quality team for effective technical specifications and product quality standards. You’ll also support and be responsible for timely sample evaluations, ensure quality levels are met, support sustainability and innovation projects, and have an approval of all supported products. In collaboration with both internal and external partners, you will co-develop products, ensure the brand vision is executed, and identify and address manufacturing and quality issues. With regards to research, you will be responsible for understanding the competition and benchmarks for specified product categories and developing innovative product solutions.

About You:
  • Four-year degree in Engineering, Material Science, Product Development, Design, or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of related industry experience, preferably in consumer product or packaging development
  • Proficient technical knowledge of product manufacturing desired
  • Excellent problem solving skills and creative thinking skills
  • Ability to successfully work in a diverse team environment
