As our Product developer, you will create and deliver innovative, quality, and differentiated new product development (NPD). At a glance:

  • Position: Permanent

  • Location: This is a blended working role, therefore your time will primarily be split between working from home and Bracknell Head Office.


You will:

  • be developing innovative & profitable products to delight our customers by offering a distinctive offer & consistent product quality across Waitrose

  • be ensuring all products adhere to defined brand, technical, Corporate Responsibility & nutritional policies & in line with GSCoP (Grocery Supply Code of Practice)

  • be understanding supplier capability & contributing to supplier strategy for product development

  • be delivering products on time and in full, including briefing suppliers, attending panel approvals and reviewing post launch

  • be working closely and collaboratively with stakeholders across buying, technical and Product Innovation to land products

  • be keeping abreast of trends from customer strategy, insight and direction, macro consumer trends and food/grocery trends. Spending time to scope out and research the project/category to determine the best outcomes that meet with Waitrose own brand strategy.

What will you be doing as a Product Developer?

  • Develops and delivers new & improved innovative, quality focused and differentiated products, aligned to Own brand values whilst understanding and managing the commercial implications of development in the grocery environment

  • Builds, strengthens and owns the NPD relationships between Waitrose and suppliers within the projects being worked on


Essential skills required:

  • Previous product development experience within Manufacturing or Retail.

  • Experience in launching major NPD/Brand projects.

  • Proven track record of high quality, commercially successful product development & supplier management.

  • Strong creative skills in food, grocery.

  • Good analysis skills and capable of analysing sales & insight data.


What else you could bring:

  • Further education qualification in Food, grocery non food

  • Retail or manufacturing experience; buying experience; product technical experience
