Job description

Background:

Keencut is a leading manufacturer of high-quality precision cutting equipment for the wide-format printing and sign-making industry. From its manufacturing base in Corby, Northants, it sells globally with a strong presence in the USA, the UK and Western Europe. We have a strong export business, generating 80% of sales outside the UK.

Keencut has a history of innovation, with over 40 years of experience in designing, manufacturing, and assembling complete products in-house. Our on-site primary manufacturing capabilities extend out towards CNC milling, CNC turning, and welding, with also a recent expansion into FDM 3D printers to support the prototype and production process, all in preparation for future growth and development in our R&D and production base.

Keencut is a registered and licensed sponsor of skilled work visas. However, please do note that applications are limited to graduates that are based within the UK, as we will not be able to sponsor anyone during the period of the internship contract. Should the internship prove to be successful, this role has the potential to develop into a permanent position within Keencut.

Job Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for a bright, enthusiastic graduate to join an innovative and fast-growing British manufacturer, which has a strong track record of exporting its products around the world.

This role will offer you the chance to gain commercial engineering experience through frequent cooperation with other experienced members in our research & development team, all whilst carrying out work on your own personal internship project. This supported project experience will provide first-hand engagement on how a commercial project would develop from the conceptualisation phase, through to the prototype production, and all the way up to being ‘Ready for production’.

The focused design process will provide valuable knowledge on generating designs with intent (feasibility and efficiency) and the manufacturing processes in the forefront of the design process. The role will commonly see you feature design work relating to extrusion, sheet metal, CNC milling/turning, and casting processes, all providing a valuable foundation for a career in mechanical product design and engineering.

As part of the R&D team, your role will also include performing quality assurance and improvement tasks, vastly improving your knowledge and practical know-how on managing the quality process on a commercial production line, whilst simultaneously exposing yourself to detailed toleranced manufacturing drawings. These intermediary tasks will leave you in good stead for preparing your own designs to be manufactured as prototypes and tested for final stage production.

Career Benefits:

  • Personal industrial project experience.

  • A good communicator and a team player.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software such as Solid Works, Alibre Design, Inventor or similar.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and an understanding of metalworking processes.
  • Must live a commutable distance from Corby or be willing to relocate.
