Job Title: Producer Director / Videographer

Salary: £36,101 to £37,625 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £36,101 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £37,625 will be via incremental progression.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic, exciting storyteller who can work to a brief but also improvise and creatively develop content. The role holder would be a self-shooting PD (producer director) who would be able to take an idea work with diverse stakeholders and deliver quality production content quickly, efficiently and prudently. They will direct, shoot and edit both short-form and long-form content. They will do this by proactively identifying opportunities to tell training stories through film, reaching out across L&D and beyond into the wider Met to create and support the creation of dynamic new and professional content. The role holder will amongst other things: Work closely with the content design team, ensuring every aspect of the production is carefully planned so that schedules are delivered in a timely manner, help write and finalise scripts ensuring content reflects our diverse audiences and oversee production workflows.

Communications and Working Relationships

The role holder will work cross functionally across the content design team which includes technical designers … opportunity to work across the whole range of Met departments from firearms to response specialist units, counter terrorism, public order and beyond to First Aid, ELS or Professionalism skills. Close working relationships with wider L&D, College of Policing, Crime Academy and Professionalism stakeholders.

Essential For The Role, e.g. qualifications, licenses, languages, training

Knowledge:

  • BA hons degree in Media studies or related field ie film making or relevant industry experience.
  • An appreciation of risk assessments for shooting / outside production
  • Of different types of shot for example, establishing, B roll, General view / geography shots and how to use them creatively in a narrative structure to script
  • Management of content placement onto social media or other platforms

Skills:

  • Strong storytelling ability with the skill to present complex subjects in a way that audiences can understand
  • Visually drive the content in terms of style and structure encouraging innovation but always working within the Met Brand guidelines
  • To creatively design the mood and personality of content, crafting material that will resonate with the intended audience
  • Excellent interviewing skills for different formats eg presenter led and in groups. Understanding interview questions, working scripted and unscripted. Scenario filming for interactive 360 content.
  • Work to a storyboard and shot list including an understanding of the appreciation of sequencing of shots and how this fits into the wider brief. Be able to improvise and think on the spot and react to fast changing circumstances
  • Confidence in managing tight schedules and overseeing production workflows
  • Time management / prioritisation and work to tight deadlines
  • Documentary skills/ documentary filmmaking
  • To write commentary and voice – over content / script
  • Ability to use greenscreen and auto prompt / teleprompt or desire to be developed in this area
  • Ability to support the production of wider graphic elements within content design
  • Editing, Adobe After Effects / graphic editing using Adobe Premier Pro
  • Budgeting, setting their own budget and working efficiently and to value management plans in a cost-effective way.
  • Understanding Maintaining equipment, ie resource management
  • Ability to set up camera technical specification for multiple cameras or fade in / out etc
  • Understanding and ability to work from a specific visual brief but also to contribute to this process and evolve using their own skills and experience to produce the best possible product

Experience:

  • Of taking ideas from concept to finished product whilst driving creativity
  • Of content production in the role of producer director
  • Experience of sourcing and managing contributors, including release forms. Able to give creative direction to actors and non-actors
  • Experience or understanding of location requirements and legislation for filming and gaining access release forms
  • Experience of filming talking heads, 1-2-1 interviews, group interviews and presenter led interviews
  • Be able to evidence personally having completed the end-to-end process of filmmaking ie pre-production / production and postproduction.
  • Sourcing and managing contributors, including release forms.
  • Able to give creative direction to actors and non-actors
