The Toronto Star is looking for an experienced audio producer for a vacancy in the digital department of the Star newsroom. You will join a small, dedicated team of podcasters and collaborate to create frequent, engaging, premium audio content that include sources from inside the Star as well as original reporting.

Job Introduction:
The audio producer will be responsible for producing audio stories, including helping to develop, produce, and upload audio content to thestar.com and third party platforms. Furthermore, the successful candidate will help schedule guests (internal and external), and work with journalists and hosts on scripting, scheduling, and production. They will also review daily and long-term assignments to identify stories and topics that will benefit from audio.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, plan and schedule audio production - including interviews, behind-the-scenes material, original content, and coverage of events and activities
- Record audio as required
- Participate in content brainstorm discussions and pitch creative suggestions for audio content to the newsroom
- Working across the newsroom, be involved in all aspect of audio creation – scripting, scheduling, recording, and production
- Produce audio in adherence to the Toronto Star’s quality editorial and ethical standards in a timely manner
- Continually improve and broaden digital audio skills and awareness of the latest audio tools and technology
- Help cut and produce video clips and other content from our audio interviews
- Schedule talent and guests
- Other duties as assigned
- Experience as an audio producer
- Experience with audio hosting and publishing platforms (i.e. Soundcloud, iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, etc.)
- Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of audio production, including hardware and software, sound requirements, audio recording, workflow, and platforms
- Exceptional storytelling capabilities, particularly as they translate to audio
- Conversant in digital publishing technologies to effectively communicate with journalists
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects proactively
- Ability to work outside normal work hours as needed
- Interest in contributing to an organization that strives to make a real difference in the community
