- Work with editorial leaders to identify topics of particular relevance to our target audiences with particular emphasis on topics in the music world.
- Chase and book guests for a daily arts radio program while focusing on a wide range of opinion and background.
- Work collaboratively across the EFS Arts team to engage with and build audience using multiple platforms.
- Anticipate the audience’s needs to provide timely, relevant information and context.
- Assist in developing program content including writing, researching, gathering and/or editing; ensure adherence to the style and format of the program.
- Ensure CBC’s JSP is applied to all on air and on line content.
- Conceives and develops program ideas and concepts. Participates in the preparation of program objectives.
- Plans, organizes and co-ordinates the program or the components and/or segments of a program, or programs.
- Engages and evaluates a wide range of freelance talent for on air contributions.
- Plans, selects and requests, in collaboration with the Unit or Business Manager, the financial and production/resource requirements including the creative contributors and other participants, the material and facilities.
- Research, chase, pitch and execute items for broadcast.
- Select, write and/or edit copy for digital feed.
- Direct talent and contributors for segments and panels.
- Ensure, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in the program.
- determine the order and importance of various elements of a program or segment.
- identify, develop and maintain contacts appropriate to the area of assignment.
- edit and mix audio and/or visual elements.
- assure the maintenance of a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience which is both feasible and appropriate to the style and nature of the program and participate in this activity as necessary.
- University degree or equivalent
- Minimum of two years’ broadcast experience, in a journalistic setting
- Deep community and audience-centric mindset.
- Specialist in music of all genres from the past 40 years
- Extensive knowledge of music and musicians in Canada
- Ability to write scripts and intros in the voice of the show
- Ability to write digital editorial content for online web stories
- Chasing experience
- Ability to identify stories that are relevant today
- Experience producing/writing radio current affairs stories
- Passion for/experience in arts and entertainment coverage
- Strong journalistic judgment
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to use tape effectively, and write to it with flair
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize
- Superior editing skills in DaletPlus or comparable editing system
- Superior skills in publishing with Polopoly
- Flexibility to adapt to changing work patterns and methods.
- Independent, self-motivated combined with the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a high pressure environment
- Well-developed interpersonal skills
- Track record of creativity and innovation
