Procurement Assistant

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm

Location: This role is a hybrid position between the Orbital office (ST15 0QN) and working from home. However, the successful candidate can work in the office full time if they wish.

This role reports to the Procurement Manager.

Primary duties

  • Support the procurement department with administrative tasks to ensure that all information surrounding procurement activities is accurately logged and shared with appropriate departments / supply chain partners.
  • Take responsibility for smaller value sub-category areas, working closely with the supply chain to identify areas of opportunity and value.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with suppliers.
  • Request quotations from the company’s established preferred supplier list.
  • Processing purchase orders to fulfil project requirements.
  • Ensure all order acknowledgements are received and logged onto the system.
  • Contacting suppliers to schedule and/or expedite deliveries.
  • Work closely with Project and Production departments to advise on ETA’s and current product lead times.
  • Maintain the database of preferred suppliers.
  • Support further developments of the company's purchasing system.
  • Assist with resolving any queries associated with company expenditure.

Secondary duties

  • Support Company performance reporting.
  • Review and manage Preferred Suppliers List
  • Manage the return of non-conforming parts from end-to-end.

Essential skills, experience and qualifications

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both individually and as part of a team.
  • Strong planning, organisational, analytical, communication and networking skills are required.
  • Numerical and financial acumen.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to build rapport and communicate appropriately at all levels.

Desirable skills, experience and qualifications

  • Maths and English qualifications.
  • Previous administrative experience within an office environment.
  • High level of computer literacy, to include SAP, MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong organisational and administration skills.
