About the Role
As part of the Procurement team you will play a significant contribution towards Diageo’s business, productivity and growth goals. Within the Marketing A&P, the Media category is the largest spend area with ambitions for further growth. There is, therefore, a need to drive efficiency in the spend and ways of operating to deliver value creation to support operating margin improvement and competitive advantage. The Consumer Insights into our business are key to ensuring me make the right commercial and strategic decisions.
The prime accountability for the role is to drive value through ensuring the commercial elements of spend in this category are implemented thoughtfully with our vendors to unlock the value and business performance that procurement can bring. The role is also pivotal is driving a data led approach to our investment decision making, whilst maximising both efficiency and effectiveness of that investment.
The category has a number of partners including the local market Media and Consumer Planning teams, the Marketing Effectiveness function and other digital teams, as well as our agency partners and wider networks. Business partnering is key.
You will be joining the fantastic Europe Marketing Procurement team and working directly with the other Category Specialists and Category Managers Globally and locally. Scope of Europe region includes the Market clusters of GB, Ireland, Northern Europe, Southern Europe, Eastern Europe, MENA (Middle East North Africa) and Turkiye.
You will become the subject matter expert across Media and Consumer Planning and work closely with our Global Procurement team.
As a key person in our dedicated team, your focus in this role is:
  • Applying strategic Procurement excellence, through feeding into the Global Category Strategy and creation of the Europe Category Strategy/Implementation plan. Ensuring that plans considers market insights, deliver excellence benefits and drives value in line with targets.
  • Delivery the category program through end to end execution of Category strategy, working to drive strategic projects, optimise innovation and identify untapped areas of opportunity.
  • Leading sourcing activities, cost modelling, contract management, supplier relationship management, supplier innovation and supplier development activity using best in class processes and ways of working.
  • Ensuring brilliant execution from our agency partners though business partnering as well as ongoing rigorous supplier performance management.
  • Building relationships throughout the supply chain with media owners and technology partners for today and for the future.
  • Truly understanding the capability requirements across Europe for Consumer Planning and aligning our agency ecosystem to ensure we are set up for success now and in the future.
  • Driving a data led approach to our investment decision making within Europe whilst partnering with our Marketing investment team to optimise our A&P.
  • Supporting digital transformation and playing a key role within Europe Procurement on this approach.
  • Seeking to delivery year on year cost reduction and value creation to support operating margin improvement and competitive advantage.
  • Delivery of both financial and non financial Key Performance Indicator's.
  • Partnering across strategic business areas; Customer Operation, Innovation, Finance, Legal and Supply, ensuring full engagement to enhance commercial advantage, minimize risk and assuring quality of delivery and performance.
Recently the Total Europe Procurement team came together to review what the next 2-3 years look like and has now a very clear stretching ambition to exponentially increase the value it brings to Diageo, and also very importantly, how it brings that value. The Category Specialist will play a key role with the rest of the team to accelerate us towards that ambition.
About You
For this role we are looking for someone who has the following skills and experience:
  • Dynamic individual with the ability to thrive in an agile and fast-paced environment while finding clarity in ambiguous situations by stimulating alternative thinking. High level of energy and commitment and a relentlessness in the pursuit of goals.
  • Experience in a Procurement, finance, Marketing or other relevant role.
  • Strong commercial acumen, understanding of the business, and judgement; bringing value.
  • Excellent stakeholder management.
  • Project, operational and change management capabilities.
  • Analytical skills, including forensic understanding of the cost drivers to target and influence costs through end-to-end value. Have commercial skill, understanding of the business and judgment.
  • You can demonstrate consistent performance and examples of implementing projects and driving strategic change through influencing partners. You use industry knowledge and research to drive improvements.
  • Strong communication skills are a key strength and you have the ability to articulate across all levels of the organization. Experience developing and carrying out category and procurement strategies is advantageous.
  • Experience in negotiation to drive value.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Media and Consumer Promotions landscape.
  • Degree educated or equivalent relevant work experience.
