The Role
We are excited to attract a Continuous Improvement Engineer for our Doswell, VA location. This position will report to our Technical & CI department and will analyze and measure the effectiveness of existing business processes and develop sustainable, repeatable, and quantifiable business processes improvements. You will research best business practices within and outside the organization to establish benchmark data, collect and analyze process data to initiate, develop and recommend business practices and procedures, and determine how new information technologies can support reengineering business processes and system improvements. This role will serve as a member of our leadership team, requiring discretion and independent judgement. They will have access to confidential information in addition to considering, comparing, and evaluating data and processes, and recommending different courses of action.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure strict adherence to safety guidelines.

- Develop a local lean and continuous improvement strategy aimed at achieving business objectives, Drives optimal solutions with the identification and adoption of best practices.
- Leads and manages project teams to develop and execute comprehensive program initiatives, both short and long term, focusing on continuous improvement.
- Adapts departmental plans, policies, and priorities to address resources and challenges.
- Manages the development of a standard operating process repository and electronic reference center. Deploy and frequently coach proven problem-solving techniques and drive adoption of standard operating processes.
- Model and present potential outcomes from system changes.
- Document system details and collect data about current procedures and outputs.
- Perform cost assessments using historical business data to assess the benefits of capital projects and system process improvements.
- Measure and eliminate waste streams within the organization by applying lean principles.
- Create step-by-step procedures and timelines for each modification.
- Manages effort to identify opportunities for long- and short-term process improvement strategies, working closely with cross-functional and operational teams. Research new equipment and techniques to help drive the strategies.
- Lead cross-functional team, when conducting root cause analysis and establish corrective action plans for all non-conforming products. Identify root causes, track defects, measure performance against KPIs, and resolve issues.
- Help build a strong plant team by providing formal and informal training.
- May assume other duties as applied.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Hands-on manufacturing experience ideally in a known lean organization.
- Prior experience in an operations-related role with essential knowledge about how business theory translates to actual success.
- Experience supervising or consulting on various aspects of business operations.
- A self-starter with a natural bias for action with a focus on results, delivery and customer service; moves with a sense of urgency and easily organizes priorities, follow-up actions and leadership direction; comfortable with ambiguity.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial Engineering, Business, or related preferred.
- Advanced Excel user.
- Very strong mechanical and technical background.
- Paper/plastics industry experience preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience in a production facility.
