Bournemouth University’s vision is worldwide recognition as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society through the fusion of education, research and practice.

Fusion is at the heart of our strategy and through this model, we support our staff to think differently and find solutions – whether it is a way of enhancing the degrees we offer, developing an exciting new direction of research, or engaging with businesses, health and care providers, third sector organisations and government bodies to share expertise and gain insights that shape our education and research, providing solutions to societal challenges.

We are well placed to succeed with an increasingly strong academic portfolio, focus on the student experience, and growth in student numbers and research across a wide range of disciplines.

As part of our successful journey, we seek an exceptional leader to shape, inform and drive strategy for research and knowledge exchange. In this newly created position, you will undertake a pivotal and influential role within the university executive team, providing collective leadership to all aspects of the University, driving the continuous evolution and delivery of our strategy. Specifically, you will provide leadership and policy direction for all aspects of the development, communication, delivery and review of our research and knowledge exchange strategies. You will be responsible for driving the research and knowledge exchange culture and growth of income opportunities, including Intellectual Property and commercialisation, and initiating and leading relationships to enhance BU’s reputation.

You will be able to demonstrate a strong research profile and evidence of successful strategic leadership. As an experienced leader, you will possess the skills to pro-actively energise and drive the transformation of the culture at BU to ensure engagement in our vision and strategic plan. Your outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, will ensure that you are able to operate successfully internally and externally, building partnerships and collaborations, and engendering a shared purpose. We strive for excellence in everything that we do, so a creative and solution-focusses approach is essential. With an inclusive and inspiring approach, you will value diversity and difference, and operate with integrity and openness.

BU is an inclusive, forward looking and ambitious university. The variety and scale of our educational, research, professional practice, entrepreneurial, cultural and societal activity presents an opportunity to thrive for the right candidate.
