Coram is the UK’s oldest children’s charity, helping vulnerable children and young people since 1739. Today, the Coram group helps more than one million children, young people, families and professionals every year.
In Coram’s Impact and Evaluation Team we carry out research and evaluation projects for our colleagues in the Coram group of children’s charities, and for external funders.
About the role:
We are looking for Pro Bono Economiststo provide voluntary advice and input. This is an opportunity to gain experience by applying your technical skills to real-world research, while helping vulnerable children and young people.
At any one time, a range of research and evaluation projects are in progress across the Coram group of children’s charities. We aim to produce research and evaluation of the highest quality, and have a range of quality assurance procedures in place to ensure this. We want to bolster our analytical capability by taking on one or more volunteers. We are seeking an economist or econometrician to commit to a year or more of volunteering, which can be entirely home based. You should have extensive, degree-level training in economics or equivalent experience.
You will be joining a team of mixed-methods researchers and evaluators committed to producing work of the highest quality on a range of topics and using a range of methods.
Job Description
The purpose of this role is to generally support the research and evaluation work of the Coram group, and of Coram’s Impact and Evaluation Team particularly, by providing advice and input on economics including econometrics and/or cost benefit analysis. You will join a team of mixed-methods researchers and evaluators committed to producing work of the highest quality on a range of topics and using a range of methods.
- Provide advice on aspects of work at early stages in planning, such as by commenting on draft bids and proposals
- Provide input during data analysis, for example by carrying out defined pieces of analysis
- Review analysis already undertaken, for example checking code/syntax, and advising on the reporting of analysis

Person specification
Essential
- extensive, degree-level training in economics or equivalent experience
- willingness to commit to a year or more of volunteering
- expertise in econometric methods, and/or expertise in economic evaluation approaches such as cost benefit analysis
Desirable
- interest or experience in services for children and young people, especially children’s social care, childcare, and education
