We are looking for two motivated individuals to act as Private Secretaries to our Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO). This is an exciting time to join the Gambling Commission’s journey, from implementing the Gambling Act Review to transitioning to the 4th National Lottery Licence, as well as continuing our momentum in enabling a culture of compliance at the earliest opportunity with over 2,000 licensed operators.

Your Role
As a Private Secretary, you will provide direct support to the CEO or DCEO to help maximise their time to enable them to input into our top priorities.

This is a hybrid role, therefore there will be a requirement to attend our Birmingham Office.
About You
Knowledge of working within a regulator/Arm’s Length Body/Non-Departmental Public Body, or experience of working in government relations, politics or public affairs and stakeholder engagement would be desirable.

Your Role
As a Private Secretary, you will provide direct support to the CEO or DCEO to help maximise their time to enable them to input into our top priorities.
Your role will also involve:
- Ensuring the office and relevant teams are run efficiently, operate strategically and are able to react effectively to internal and external challenges.
- Anticipating and reacting to evolving issues and making sound decisions, using political judgement when needed.
- Acting as a source of advice for the DCEO on a range of issues, including managing inboxes, assessing work priorities, assigning actions and leading stakeholder engagement activities.
- Being perceptive and providing great attention to detail. You will oversee the provision of accurate and timely advice and briefings to the Deputy and/or Chief Executive and will follow up progress where necessary.
- Working with colleagues from across the Commission to ensure we have the structures in place to support a smooth and efficient delivery of priorities.
This is a hybrid role, therefore there will be a requirement to attend our Birmingham Office.
About You
- Ability to see the ‘big picture’ and adopt a Commission-wide perspective to ensure alignment of activities.
- Experience of planning and organisation skills, with the ability to react quickly and adapt to changing circumstances and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to think strategically, see, understand and communicate priorities with a wider understanding of the Commission’s operating environment, including the political context.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to understand complex and broad issues quickly, rapidly process data and information and use judgement to distil key points and to escalate risks and issues appropriately.
- Experience in delivering work from start-to-finish, working closely with colleagues to deliver excellent results and to create a supportive environment where people feel it is encouraged to take responsibility.
- Ability to learn quickly in a hands-on role and/or strong analytical skills with the ability to use your judgement to distil key points and to escalate risks and issues appropriately.
