Job description
The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of high standards of nursing care and will provide a first point of contact for all patients, consultants and third parties ensuring a first-class customer service is delivered in a professional, friendly, helpful, calm and efficient manner.
The post holder is expected to competently carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision, monitoring and maintaining excellent standards of nursing care, administrative duties and staff development in keeping with.

The post holder will ensure compliance with clinical governance and will take part in any inspection requested by statutory bodies such as Health and Safety or CQC if required.
The post holder will work closely with the nominated lead for Infection Prevention and Control for within their local area ensuring that infection prevention and control is an integral part of service delivery.
The post holder will be part of the emergency team when on duty.

- Leading by example, demonstrating team spirit and support all colleagues in any required tasks.
- To ensure that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times.
- Provide the full range of nursing services, including cannulation & phlebotomy, ECG, blood pressure measurement, glucose monitor, urinalysis, wound care and any other procedures within the scope of practice.
- Identify and report, clinical risks any accidents/incidents, near misses involving staff, patients and visitors in accordance with Trust policies and assist in any investigations as required.
- Working within flexible rosters, designed to achieve the most effective use of staff to meet the needs of our patients.
- Assist the senior staff nurse in ensuring the department is running efficiently and effectively at all times and deputise in her/his absence when necessary.
- Know how and when to call for assistance in the event of emergency. Be trained and able to assist in emergency patient care, including resuscitation.
- To assist with patients’ journey, the lead will ensure there is an effective communication between nursing team and others such as their visitors, patient Journey team, technologists, physicians, and other team members to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Training and Education:
- Participate in the Trust’s appraisal, identify personal objectives, and reflect on progress.
- Liaise with your line manager in agreeing and set annual personal development plan and identify how training and development needs can be met.
- To achieve competencies/goals as set by mentor or line manager.
- To keep updated with IT training including any relevant training courses in place and under development.
- Undertake initial and refresher mandatory training to ensure compliance at all times.
- Demonstrate self-motivation to learn and a flexible attitude to acquiring skills, take every opportunity to expand own practice in line with the principles contained within the NMC guidelines and protocols.
- To partake in the induction of new staff.
- Participating in teaching within your sphere of knowledge and skills.
- Acting as specialist/link person having undergone the relevant training sessions in your area of expertise (for example infection control).
Communication:
- To demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients/clients, visitors/relatives and colleagues, maintaining good customer relations, recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication.
- Attend daily multidisciplinary team briefing.
- To promote and abide by the ‘6 Cs’ of nursing (care, compassion, competence, communication, courage, commitment).
- To participate, contribute, promote and abide by the private patient gold standard of customer care initiatives and measure outcomes.
- Attend your department monthly nursing team meeting to improve communication and contribute positively to the discussion and action plans that arises.
- Attend other multidisciplinary meeting, committee or forum if required, and contribute towards sharing good practice.
- Ensure consultants and their secretaries who use the private patient’s service receive helpful responses to their requests for information.
- Complete your own induction and participate in the induction of new staff, acting as mentor to healthcare assistants and recording their progress.
- Organising own time and taking responsibility for duties delegated by the senior staff nurse and your line manager.
- Lead by example to promote a happy, helpful, professional and respectful working environment, and use diplomacy to address any conflict between individual and groups of staff.
- Ensure you are competent in using computer system including entering and retrieving accurate information.
- Know how to enter and process data using accurate entry to ensure easy and accurate information retrieval for monitoring, financial and audit processes.
- Participate in the collection of audit and research data as required.
- To ensure appropriate use of resources and minimal waste.
- To work together with the Private Patient team to ensure effective use of resources and actively engage with rostering.
- Demonstrate a problem-solving approach and suggest potential solutions.
- Effectively plan and organise own daily workload through careful use of office equipment and working within the team.
- To be aware of and monitor consumable consumption.
Service Development:
- To understand and keep up to date with current developments in nursing and related sciences which will increase professional knowledge and skills.
- To participate and contribute with the nurse led patient initiatives that are run in the department.
- To participate in team discussions on business planning and service development.
- To contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment for colleagues, patients and visitors.
- Work in maintaining policies and procedures for the nursing and clinical practice.
- To work with the department manager and to be actively involved in the implementation the CQC standards and compliance.
- To be familiar with the pricing policy for private patients in order to be able to supply correct information to all enquirers and give realistic quotes for treatment. • Adhere to the private patient policy and procedures, as amended from time to time. • You fully understand and adhere to Trust’s as well as private patients policies, procedures and nursing guidelines.
