Job Description

About us:

Lazard is the world's largest independent investment bank, with principal executive offices in New York, Paris and London. Founded in 1848, Lazard operates in 43 cities across 27 countries with two core businesses: asset management and financial advisory.

Lazard Asset Management (“LAM”) is Lazard’s investment management arm responsible for over US $250 billion of investments across a wide range of global, regional and country-specific strategies - both traditional and alternative - in listed equity and fixed income. At LAM, we pride ourselves in balancing the feel of a small firm with the scale of a large global organization. Our entrepreneurial culture and flat management structure foster an environment in which good ideas can take flight, no matter where they come from.

As a LAM employee, you will be immersed in a unique environment where success is achieved through both teamwork and ideas sharing as well as taking responsibility for your own analysis, investment recommendations and thorough sector and company research.

Role:

In addition to well established listed investment franchise, LAM is currently expanding its private investing business with two private equity strategies currently deploying capital and fundraising. To support the growth, we are hiring one or more Analysts to contribute to one or both of the recently launched strategies: (i) Sustainable Private Infrastructure and (ii) Crossover Investing.

  • The Sustainable Private Infrastructure strategy invests globally in mid-market infrastructure companies across energy transition, transport, and waste & resources efficiency, among other sectors. The strategy focuses on delivering superior financial returns alongside positive and measurable environmental and social outcomes. The strategy has a long-term investment horizon and adopts an active asset management approach to ensure outperformance of its portfolio investments.
  • The Crossover strategy seeks to invest in attractive growth companies at different stage in development, spanning late-stage VC, pre-IPO, private growth equity and PIPE investments, amongst others. Crossover Investing is a sector-agnostic and global strategy that combines features of private equity and public equities investment, and builds on LAM’s private investing expertise, track record in investing in public markets (including IPOs) and strong listed equities research capabilities.

This is an exciting opportunity to join LAM’s private investing franchise during its formation days and make an early contribution. You will be joining a small team of experienced investors, working in a collegial and collaborative fashion. You will have the opportunity to help define the strategies’ next steps and assist with the launch of new private products and funds. We believe this represents a very attractive opportunity for a differentiated professional who wants to commit to building an investment strategy from an early stage whilst benefiting from the support of an internationally renowned investment firm.

Your typical responsibilities:

  • Investment analysis: your primary responsibility from your first day at LAM. Includes financial modelling and valuation, independent research into private (and occasionally public) companies as well as sector research, developing financial and commercial analysis, attending management meetings, coordinating due diligence process and ultimately supporting well-articulated and thorough investment recommendations to Portfolio Managers and senior investment professionals
  • Origination: helping build relationships with private companies as well as other market participants – for example, capital markets and due diligence advisors, other investors etc. In the medium term, actively source potentially actionable private investment opportunities
  • Execution: liaising with advisors and colleagues within LAM on negotiating and documenting investments (including shareholders agreements, subscription agreements, side letters, etc.)
  • Portfolio management & fund administration: monitoring existing investments, conducting regular valuation assessment, and contributing to regular reporting to clients and regulators,
  • Business development: supporting all aspects of product development, fund establishment and supporting Portfolio Managers and LAM’s sales and marketing teams in their fundraising efforts
Your profile:
  • Desire to work in a small team with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Approximately 2-5 years’ experience as either:
    • an equity research analyst (buy-side or sell-side),
    • infrastructure investor,
    • venture capital investor, or
    • M&A, ECM or PCM investment banker / financial adviser.
  • Excellent analytical skills, pragmatic and commercial mindset and ability to distill large volumes of business information into key most important commercial issues
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to create and analyse complex financial models and conduct financial analysis
  • Solid understanding of the basics of company valuation, ability to analyse various business models
  • Ability to make sound investment recommendations to Portfolio Managers and senior investment professionals
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders and capable of creating positive and productive relationships
  • Desire to commit the time and effort needed to build a successful investment strategy
