The Research Centre for Manufacturing and Materials (CMM) and the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) within the Research Centre for Clean Growth and Future Mobility (CGFM) at Coventry University, is seeking to recruit a capable and experienced professional to take a leadership position in the exciting and growing area of Digital Manufacturing.
This is an immediate opening for a highly motivated individual with a PhD or equivalent professional experience demonstrating an ability to carry-out independent applied research and a track-record of high-quality outputs in Digital Manufacturing.
The focus of the successful applicant’s work in this post will be to perform leading role in the delivery of impactful research and commercial activity within the CMM/AME in the area of manufacturing. In particular, this post has specific responsibility for leading the commercial activities for the research theme focused in Digital Manufacturing which aims to contribute to more efficient, responsive and smart factories and supply chains. Efficient and responsive production combines speed, precision, quality and reliability with flexibility and agility.
The Principle Engineering of Digital Manufacturing will be expected to provide outputs in the form of technologies and methods for digital manufacturing, new digital systems, digital twins and automation. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the development of technologies for scalable, reconfigurable and flexible manufacturing systems.
The successful candidate will be working as part of a cross-disciplinary team of academics and industrial engineers as part of a large team. The individual will engage with stakeholders, either directly or through colleagues with responsibilities in this area in order to identify and focus on specific datasets and problems.
As part of its expansion the AME has invested over £5M in new facilities and equipment which includes a new state-of-the-art Metrology Laboratory and a digital demonstrator co-created with our industrial partners to replicate the systems and data sets currently used across the manufacturing and engineering value chain. The successful candidate will have access to the AME facilities in order to conduct research experiments and to contribute to the knowledge base around this topic.
The successful candidate will be part of a vibrant and inclusive research group, working closely with other researchers and industrial partners. There will also be opportunities for national and international travel, and collaboration with other research organisations.
