We are looking for a Principal Urban Drainage Modeller to join our Water Environment Department. Ideally the role will be based in Leeds with flexible working but other locations would be considered.
Your role will be to lead the delivery of a wide variety of projects for several key clients both in the UK and Europe. The work will cover a range of activities including project feasibility through to detailed design and construction support and including integrated catchment studies, flood protection studies, surface water management, infrastructure projects, sustainable drainage, asset management and development impact assessments Your role will play a significant part in the development of others in the team.
We are looking for individuals who are able to challenge conventional thinking and work collaboratively to meet a wide range of business, environment and regulatory challenges for these clients. The role offers an opportunity for successful candidates to broaden and diversify their hydraulic modelling expertise.
Core duties and responsibilities will include:
- Working within agreed deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, quality assurance and control strategy.
- Leading project delivery tasks which may include engagement with clients’ technical teams, calculations, drawings, sketches and reports etc, as well as site investigations.
- Taking a project manager role for selected projects always demonstrating an awareness of project needs taking personal responsibility to work to deliver these to agreed time, cost and quality requirements.
- Providing technical guidance, support and training to colleagues leading in the development of the urban drainage within the Water Environment Department.
- Working in close collaboration with and supporting colleagues from other disciplines as required.
- Recommending / implementing improvements to technical policy, processes and design solutions where applicable, and sharing via the knowledge management channels as appropriate.
- Helping in managing and developing the clients’ portfolio taking an active role in growing the development sector for the Water Environment Department.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A strong interest in the water environment and an understanding of the issues associated to sustainability and climate change adaptation.
- A degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or similar subject with significant hydrology or hydraulics content.
- Experience of GIS (e.g. ArcGIS or Mapinfo) and Infoworks ICM hydraulic modelling software is essential
- A track record in mentoring team members less experienced in this field
- Experience of managing projects and acting as technical discipline lead on multi-disciplinary projects is essential
- Knowledge of the UK legislation and relevant guidance governing the technical discipline
- Chartered with a professional body such as CIWEM or ICE
- Ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in plain English
