Job description
We are looking for an experienced IT Support Technician to join the Department of Engineering's Information and Computing Services group (ICS) at the Department's site in Trumpington Street.
ICS provides IT and AV services that underpin the Department's world-leading teaching and research, as well as the administration that supports them. ICS comprises approximately 30 IT professionals, working in teams focused on user support, infrastructure, AV, research support and DevOps.
As Principal IT Support Technician, you will join the helpdesk and desktop support team headed by the IT Support Team Leader. The Support Team is responsible for front-line IT services and provides first- and second-tier support to users in the Department of Engineering, working closely with colleagues within the Support Team and across the ICS group. Alongside your core support work, you will have the opportunity to work on special projects and services, and to contribute to IT planning.
With users comprising students, academics and professional staff, this is a busy and dynamic environment, and you will be exposed to a wide range of technologies. You should enjoy interacting with customers and have a desire to progress your technical skills through your work and through the training and development opportunities available to members of ICS. The IT Support Team is the face of IT in the Department for many users, and it must respond quickly, communicate effectively and provide high levels of service. Ideally, you will have demonstratable skills and experience with:
- Delivering customer-facing IT services and support
- Computer configuration management and deployment tools
- Troubleshooting PC hardware and software issues
- Proactively investigating issues and determining fixes
- Defining, carrying out and documenting small projects
- Contributing to standard procedures and support documentation
- Microsoft Windows, Office and all Microsoft 365 products
Experience with any/all of networking (DNS, DHCP), Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu), Macs, Active Directory and Windows Server would be advantage.
