Salary range: £45,000 - £65,000 plus benefits

We are currently looking for Principal Consultant to join the Water Resources and catchment management team. We are looking for someone with drive and ambition increase our business areas in one or more of the following areas namely; water resources for drought planning, Natural Capital, Biodiversity Net Gain for planning, the development of Nature Based Solutions and/or Nutrient Neutrality.


Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with our senior team and have the confidence to identify new opportunities and act upon them both in the UK and, if the successful candidate has the expertise, more widely.
  • Develop and grow any of the above technical areas in the context of a change policy environment.
  • Working collaboratively across a range of disciplines and especially with our growing climate change, policy and economist colleagues within in the business.
  • Lead teams on complex projects for a variety of clients providing technical services and advice.
  • Mentor and potentially team manage those who have experience in these areas.
  • Review projects and provide a technical lead in projects
  • Bid for new work

Key competencies and experience

  • Track record of developing new business.
  • Good understanding of the UK water industry/local planning as a priority and associated regulation as a minimum but more widely worldwide of interest to this role.
  • Ability to manage technically complex projects.
  • Experience in proposal writing and winning work.
  • A relevant degree (ideally with a post-graduate qualification).
  • Ability and keenness to both mentor a team and support technically.
  • Experience of client management

  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Collaborative team working and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage and prioritise workload and assist others in doing so.
  • Effective stakeholder liaison and management skills, including keeping clients and internal project staff up to date with progress, programme changes and tasks.
  • Ability to manage and support technical input into proposals
  • Experience of working within a consultancy

Desirable

  • Chartership of a relevant professional body.
  • Currently much of our work of this nature is based in the UK however, we do have growing expertise in Europe, Australia, and the Middle East in particular. If you have international experience as well as a sound UK understanding (essential) this would be advantageous.
  • Ability to support judicial and expert witness work and reviews would be advantageous.
