We are delighted to invite applications for a new, full time, principal clinical psychologist for North Manchester adult inpatient services. This post offers the opportunity be part of the leadership of a new inpatient psychology service. Leading a team of 2 senior and 3.5 assistant psychologists you will work to provide an excellent psychological service to 6 inpatient wards in North Manchester. You will work closely with onsite consultant clinical psychologist to ensure that the service meets local and national ambitions for Trauma Informed and therapeutic inpatient environments. Working with a full multidisciplinary team on the wards each day will be different. Key clinical aspects of your role will include developing team formulations, completing complex individual assessments, training and supervising ward staff and carrying a clinical caseload. You will oversee the work of the junior psychologists developing a range of group and individual activities.

You will be joining the service at a time of great change for North Manchester as all inpatient wards will soon be moving to a new, purpose-built building. During this exciting time the psychology service will be at the heart of developing the new clinical model for the service. With great links to the local universities you will have good CPD and research opportunities. To provide clinical leadership to the North Manchester inpatient psychology team and deliver a psychological service to the adult inpatient services in North Manchester The main duties will include:

  • Indirect working with clinical teams to develop psychological formulations
  • Complex assessments
  • Short term therapeutic interventions
  • Teaching and training of non psychology staff
  • Supervision and line management of junior psychology staff
  • Working with senior managers to develop psychologically informed models of care.

As a senior psychologist you will join a community of psychologists working into inpatient services. You will be well supported by the consultant clinical lead and work as part of a team with the inpatient psychologists in across the Trust. The psychology services in GMMH have very close links with local training courses and there will be a range of CPD opportunities to support your career development.

To work with ward teams to formulate and deliver psychologically informed treatment plans for service users

To offer reflective spaces to ward staff to support delivery of care.

To complete a small number of complex assessments, integrating a range of information from different sources

To carry a therapy caseload providing evidenced based psychological interventions to service users.

To advise operational managers and senior clinicians on best practice in relation to the delivery of psychological interventions and psychologically informed ways of working.

To work with senior psychology colleagues and service managers to provide leadership of and strategic direction for the psychology workforce in North Manchester.

To line manage and clinically supervise junior qualified and unqualified psychology staff.
