Job description
Would you like to work with people with diabetes? We have an opportunity for a clinical psychologist to work with children, young people (0.5 wte) and adults (0.2 wte) in two established services: the paediatric and young persons’ team and the adult diabetes team.
The psychological work with children is embedded in the MDT clinics. There are education groups and service development opportunities to support the paediatric team maintain its excellent national clinical results. At the age of 16 young people move into adult clinics via a pathway of care between paediatric and young adult clinics. The adult service has a successful and innovative approach that integrates an IAPT CBT therapist into the service. This ensures a smooth pathway between the acute hospital and local IAPT Long Term Conditions Service.
There will opportunities for service development (some of which might be non-diabetes paediatrics), supervision (an IAPT CBT therapist, trainee clinical psychologists and an assistant psychologist) and external and internal teaching/training.
The psychology team is very open to suggestions for service improvements and different ways of working.
You will be part of the BHT Psychological Services Team that consists of 25 clinical psychologists and 7 psychology assistants working with people with physical health conditions.

The post holder will be working alongside an experienced consultant clinical psychologist and an assistant psychologist. This role involves referral management and assessment of patients (and family when needed) to ensure patients receive the right care at the appropriate place. Interventions will include 1:1 sessions (face to face and via MS Teams) and groups and involves clinical outcome evaluation. Working with other professions in the diabetes teams is essential if the patients are to receive integrated care and the team understand the importance of clinical psychology in the service.
